Ok, I am a wimp I guess, but when I pick it up I don't want to fight it and this is the best I have come up with. I combined 2 sets of strings, D'Addario ulra lights and Martin light silk steel. I started out with 10s and I could manage but since I did not play it everyday I was just hitting too many zingers. Anyway enough of the self depricating excuses. E .010 steel E. 010 steel These are not from either the daddario or the martin set. B. 013 steel (from the dadarrio UL set) B. .013 steel (ditto above) G .023 Silk wound from the martin set G .008 steel (from the daddario UL set) D .028 silk from the martin set D .011 from the daddario set A .038 silk from the martin set A .016 from the Daddario set E .047 from the silk steel E .028 from the silk steel Go ahead, take your shots :) , anyway for someone who is stringing up their 12 for the first time it is a nice option that produces a very nice full tone. It is a bit more expensive but since I only plan on changing the strings half as often as my sixes it is not really a big deal. Tune it right up to normal pitch and you are ready to go

And if I do strum hard I can't sing loud enough so I go with a more gentle touch anyway. I tend to fingerpick most of my stuff which is where I was noticing the bad notes. Strumming was fine with the regular 10s as any not so quite fingering was covered up but when I pick, well it tends to stand out. The 9s that came with the ultra ligh dadarrio set was just too flimsy and tinny. I could have probably used the .0115s that came with the silk steel but I had some spare 10s laying around and they tend to sound fine and I am less prone to push them off of my narrow fretboard on my 1115. I would try to record something but I don't really have any equipment to do so.

That's a lot of work and experimentation to share! Hopefully I'll get around to trying your combo once I learn to play. BTW ya'll, I believe this was prompted by an ol' S&S thread way back when. Nice job Rich!
