Since nobody had mentioned the Elite T series, I'll do that now. Terrific sound plugged or unplugged. Nice slender maple neck. US made . . . and right in your price range. Once voted best bang-for-the-buck Ovation on this very site. Still have my Red 1778T (mid-bowl) for sale for $600 including OHSC and shipping. FWIW, the best-sounding guitar I ever played in a store is the Eric Clapton Martin 00028EC. But as you say, $3500 is a bit steep for this old picker.
