Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | The '87 1758-5 arrived today. As you can see in the photos a forklift blade went into the carton on the side (notice the marking there...)
I am happy to announce that the guitar and case are undamaged...in fact, the guitar is like new! Literally!
As this type of carelessness is becoming more and more frequent and the prices to ship are becoming higher and higher, something needs to be done about this.
If James (Bowl Playing Boy) had not packed the guitar so well (he built small cardboard shelves inside the box to cushion and hold the neck of the case) I have no doubt the guitar would have been ruined...they stopped the blade from hitting the case...He also removed and packed the battery in bubble wrap and shipped it in the case pocket.
Thanks James for your diligence in packing so well...and shame on USPS for their carelessness in handling...or should I say, mishandling...
I will post pic's of the guitar later when I have had a chance to tune and play it. It is awesome!

Seeing that makes me not want to ship anything but a railroad spike. |

I owned an art gallery for about 10 years, shipped/received lots of irreplaceable items, and found the best insurance was always correct packing.
Back then, I built wooden containers for all shipping in a few generic sizes so I would always have one on hand. They were shipped with a return tag for the crate so UPS would simply pick it up from the recipient after a couple of days and return empty crate to me.
I still use the same method for shipping guitars today. Expensive? yes, but the piece of mind is well worth the extra expense to me. In all the years, I only made 1 claim (for an empty crate) and they didn't question it. Face it, if they bust a wooden crate, there is no doubt the shipping firm was at fault. |
