Location: Battle Creek, MI | Hey I got my new optima preamp from Al today and it looks sweet. Does anyone know how to remove the existing op24 from a guitar. I have the S771 so there is no access door on bowl. I would like to do this myself but am already stuck on how to remove the original...All the work will have to be done from the sound hole. Any help will be appreciated |

Location: Indiana | Remove the volume knob and fader caps then carefully pry off the faceplate. (The raised frame bordering the controlls is a part of the faceplate assembly and where you do your careful prying.)
Once removed, you'll find four screws that will release the preamp. Have your hand inside supporting the box as you get to the final screw.

Location: Scotland | You need a small allen key to loosen the allen bolt securing the volume knob, then pull off the 3 knobs from the EQ sliders. Remove the 4 small screws that secure the bezel. Lift off the bezel and you'll see 4 crosshead bolts that hold the preamp to the bowl mounting-bracket. The pre can then be taken out thru the soundhole. You'll need to modify the 4 smaller holes in the bracket slightly to take the Optima. |

Location: Indiana | It's not glued. Does take some force though. I like to use wooden Popsicle sticks. Tapered down at one end like a chisel. Less chance of damage to both the cover and bowl.
Work the chisel blade under a corner and twist the stick to pry the frame upward. Then flatten the stick again and slide the sharp edge sideways under the lip towards the next corner. When it gets too tight to slide further, twist again, etc., working your way around the border.
If you do mess up the cover though ( you won't be the first), the factory can oblige with a replacement.
*Edit* Just remembered you're installing a replacement... but still, if you can keep from damageing the cover, you'll help the OFC'r you end up selling the old pre to. |

I am going to start the project tonight....The optima preamp box looks a little bigger than the op24+ so am hoping it will clear the battery box. Ok...looking for something like popsicle sticks.....ummmm...maybe a run to the store for a popsicle.....Thanks |

Location: Battle Creek, MI | Will be very careful with the preamp removal....The op24+ is a fabulous preamp and this is in perfect shape....I use this guitar with a few open tunings and the chromatic tuner on the optima will be really great |

Hi, You have to remove the little slider knobs and then the label that says Op-24+ is a sticker that has to come out. Gently remove the sticker and there are 4 screws underneath that attach the preamp to the mounting bracket.I don't know if there's much that can be fixed but at least that will get the preamp out.Good Luck"
On an OP-24+ there is just a sticker on there with the markings for the EQ & Volume sliders.
Underneath the corners are four little phillips-head screws.
On one OP-24+ that I had I could see the screws at the corners, but the sticker was still on there.
You can just peel-up the sticker at the corners and see the screws.
I think that you might still want to carefully pull-off the slider knobbie-thingies. |
