new guy here. I just got my Hurricane back from the local guitar shop after getting them to set it up (WHY DIDN'T I DO THIS MUCH SOONER!?!?!?!?), and it FINALLY plays as gorgeous as it looks! the action is absolutely sublime, and the tone is just out of this world. it has that amazing 12 string piano-like tone that they are famous for, and when you plug it into an amp, it can sound as raucous as a jet taking off, or as delicate as a baby sleeping! the tonal possibilities are really, really vast. it's still impressing the hell out of me. I'm a bass player and I can't put it down!!!

anyway, I'm on here to say hi, and try and figure out what exactly I have. I know the guitar is rare and around 40 years old, but I have no idea about value or anything (no, it's not for sale ;) ). before I go any further, I took some pictures of it:

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2035773&id=1288652207&l=d9a79...

as far as how I got the guitar, I actually bought it from my uncle who got it many years ago. it was steal, I think I gave him $100-$150 for it. definately one of my better purchases! I don't know a whole ton about playing guitar, but I'm wanting to learn after getting my Hurricane back today! I've learned a little bit about chords because I mess around with them on my bass, but I don't really have an extensive knowledge of them. it's basically been case kept most of it's life, and it looks like it's just been sitting in a closet for all of it's life! ha. it's in gorgeous condition, and I'm really proud of it. I definately love this guitar! I've googled it, and came up with very little information.

also, is there a way when I can figure out when exactly the guitar was made?

Hurricanes were made 68-72.

Serial number might help get it a bit closer

Yes welcome Joseph

I have No. A-233 that I bought from Mitzdawg, also an OFC member. Like yours, its a beauty. These Hurricanes are unusual in that the 12 strings are spread out across an 1-11/16" neck. It helps to lay the strings in consecutive groves on the bridge. Even so, there isn't much room to make up for sloppy technique, particularly if your fingertips lean toward the big side.

Only some are that way. Most have a wider neck. I've had both.

First of all, welcome to the Ovation Hive Mind!

Now that git is slap dab pretty!I've always had a sweet spot in my heart for the 330/335 style since that's what I first played over four decades ago.

Congrats on a fine guitar!

yea, I've found that the neck isn't too terribly wide, but I kinda prefer it that way. it's about the same width as my bass neck. and yes, I have typical bass hands, but I'm picking up on the chord thing. and working to keep only my fingertips touching the strings (that's the tough part!). with bass, you can be a little less precise when it comes to where you put your fingers cause there is so much space. I'm curious, how do I find out what width neck I have?

measure it at the nut with a ruler that has 16th" markings.
