In terms of rare and historical Ovations, this one is near the top. Was really sorry to see it go but I've got other plans ...

1967 Shiny Bowl Classical with 1st generation Zig-Zag rosette. The original model #3 was introduced with the non-floral inlaid rosette, same as the early Josh White. Was later changed in the more standard inlaid floral design of the model #2. In addition to the shiny bowl this classical also features the brazilian rosewood tootsie roll bridge. 14 degree peghead angle and the original etched german tuners. 2 inch nut and flat fingerboard.

Was glad to see this go to a member here, who I'm sure will announce himself in due time.

This model would be virtually impossible to replace. I've actually only seen 4 of them in my life, two of which I owned. Not sure how many shiny classicals were made, but only a fraction of those were the early ones with the non-floral rosette.

A photo blast from the past of all 7 original production models. Man I loved these guitars ...

Congrats to the new owner ...

Dave,

Any pics of the label? I have a local buddy that has a #3, S/N 1019.

Dave,
What's the story on the 12 string - it has some really nice coloring to the top. Was it a special or luck of the planer?

Dare I say it's almost a mild KOA-look to it?
:D
Woof.

That's just the way it was, nothing special.

I'm curious how this guitar sounded?

The only nylon Ovation i have played was a 1624. It had great tone -- plugged in. But was a sonic disaster unplugged (at least to my ears).

This guitar is in a different league than a country artist. Deep fiberglass bowl and different bracing. To my ears compared with my country artist it had more volume, more bottom end, more high end and the good old vintage mojo. Best ovation nylon string guitar I ever heard. And by a large margin.

I'll try to remember to bring my 1713 over to Portland sometime. To my ears it has a much nicer sound, probably because of the deep bowl and cedar top.

Besides the great tonal description above, the clarity was unlike any nylon 'O' and others I've heard!

Dave, do ya have a label pic?

To all who might have been worried in light of recent shipping horror stories, the classical is now safe and sound in it's new home. The honeymoon will no doubt last for a long, long time.
