Bob Bogle, dead at 75. Walk, don't run....to your record collection and give that Ventures compilation a spin.

Funny that I just TOOK OUT the Ventures Greatest Hits from my car stereo last week after listening to it off and on for about a month.

Great stuff that I grew up with.

"Walk Don't Run", the first bar-chord progression that I learned, boy was I full of myself then! :)

The Ventures did a lot for the instrumental rock/jazz/fusion thingy.

RIP Bob

One of my influential heroes. The very first 8-track tape I ever purchased was a now out-of-print Very Best of the Ventures featuring all of their hits plus a few others I have not found since. The year was 1966. I have one of their album covers on my studio wall along with the original sheet music of Walk Don't Run (shown between the Strat and Jag below) . . .

They were big in their day.

+1 They were ahead of the curve. They did one of the best renditions of "Night Train" I've ever heard.

The Ventures second release of WDR (I think called 'Walk Don't Run '64') featured the sweetest use of reverb I have heard before or since. Sounds like musical raindrops.

I saw them perform at the NAMM show a couple of years ago. They were in the big lobby of the convention center at the end of the day while everyone was filing out. They had a lot of miles on them but it was still a great sound and a good show. Needless to say, the Ventures had a huge impact on my musical tastes.
