Warning; long post follows...

The 1999 Collector arrived today and boy it's scores a easy 9 on the looks scale (once I scrapped off the crud, gave it the dweezil spa treatment [laxative, polish, rubbed out the minor scratches adjusted the action, new strings])

Soundwise it's a 7.5

However I'm not a collector for collecting sake, the 06 and 07 are extremes of the sound that the 99 gives. I prefer those extremes so the 99 is back on the block.

There are some other thoughts I would like to offer the group, these are personal and so don't shoot me down please. PLEASE!

The general build quality of the 99 and 01 is not as good as the 03, 06 and 07. Haven't tried a 00 or 02 but I figure the wizrds brewed up some really special magical potion around 2003.

I think it might be that the 03 was the first Ovation to have inlaid epi's. The stuck on epi's seem really quite 'clunky' and cheapo especially when compared to inlaid ones. Having said that the 1680 has overlaid epi's and that's a killer - scores 10 on both looks/tone scales.

I also prefer the neck profile on the 06/07 and there is just some other 'mojo' / tone that I cannot explain in words that makes the 06/07 "better" (OK I know, I know!!! Let's just say different)

So why regrets you're wondering?

Well having tried a LOAD of Os/As the one that I regret selling is the 03C. It didn't offer anything madly radical but was a great little and had a really "just right" look for me.

I miss that little guy
