Joined: April 2008 Posts: 288 Location: New Hampshire, USA | I just won this ebay auction: Weird Breadwinner Nutshell: 1) Body was stripped to bare wood and poly'd (badly). Neck and headstock remain original white. 2) One tuner missing cap 3) Ovation logo removed from headstock. 4) Everything else (electronics, action, etc) is fine (according to seller). Early specimen: early pickups and jack is on body, not pick guard. Here's where I need some help: 1) I'd like to restore the body to the original color and finish as closely as possible. Obviously I'll have to take the clearcoat off. I've read here that spraying Krylon from 3-4 feet away can give that "spackle" finish on an Ovation bowl. Will that effect approximate the Breadwinner finish as well? Any other painting tips (specific paint, technique) would be great. 2) Anyone have a matching tuner for sale? 3) Is the logo on a Breadwinner headstock just a decal, and can I get one from the factory if I ask nicely? I know that no matter how good a job I do, it will never be "original". I do plan to resell it after it's finished, since I already have a mint black Breadwinner. I just thought it would be a fun project. Any advice is appreciated!

I have a BW Body in White, early type like that one as well as the other parts you need. I can work one back to original or even glossy. I could also build you a nice Natural toned Deacon with updated electronics and keep the Ol' BW stuff for myself! Let's talk! ![]()

I was thinking maybe you could do the "Full Woody", sand down both the neck and body, and refinish with tung oil or Tru-Oil. I've seen Krylon and Rustoleum textured spraypaints at the local Ace Hardware. I like the idea of textured paint since I'm incapable of producing a smooth shiny surface from a spray can. Will the clearcoat really have to come off, or could it be sanded smooth and painted over? -Steve W.

If I was going to keep it I'd consider the "full woody", but I bid on it with the understanding (with the powers that be) that I'd fix it up and resell it. I think I'd get the best price if it was restored to its original white. Then again, Woody's got some interesting ideas...

I'd love to have one. I was tempted at that auction, but realized I would NEVER get around to fixin' it up. I personally was turned off by the white headstock. There was a real pretty all-silvery-blue one on evilBay a few weeks ago, that I really liked, because I thought it looked 'girly' ;P ...

If you can't get decal from the factory, then make your own from micromark. (After messing around with decals on a couple of necks, I believe they are overrated) ... I just thought it would be a fun project. After you fix it you should keep it.

Y'know, clean-up the wood and all that.
