Location: Brighty in Blighty | Hi,
I know this is open to personal preference but...
My 1763 is on it's way and want to restring with new strings. I know nothing about nylon strings.
So could someone suggest a "standard" brand/type/gauge. For example my "standard set on my acoustics are 11s. Whats the nylon equivalent?
Was thinking about these:
OVATION ADAMAS HI-TENSION NYLON CLASSIC GUITAR STRINGS - Gauges: .028 .032 .040 .032 .038 .044
Thanks... |

There are many brands but actually it's hard to beat the price and availability of D'As. The other usual suspects who make steel strings are not necessarily the top nylon purveyors. |

Location: New Jersey, USA | Just a follow-up here; according to what I can glean from the internet, the 1763 has a scale length of 665 mm. That's considered long scale for a classical guitar. The standard scale length is 650 mm.
As such, using normal tension strings would be my first instinct. If you find them too floppy, you can certainly try hard tension next time.
I have 4 high end flamenco guitars, so I have experimented a lot with nylon strings. Each instrument "likes" a different brand for tone and intonation. You have to experiment. |
