Anyone here a fan of the 2005 Collector's model? I really like mine, but I've always wanted to try a W597 or 1581 as well.

Can anyone who has tried all three compare/contrast them? Am I missing out on much, or should I quit worrying about it and just keep playing the '05?

You're trying to compare apples to oranges to mangoes. The 05C is round hole, wood top LX braced. There's less difference (but still a difference) between the cross-weave CF of the W597 and the textured CF top of the 1581 than there is between CF and wood, but they still differ. The Adamas tone is distinct, and not necessarily to everybody's liking (right, Moody?). Probably the biggest difference with Adamas vs. wood tops is the evenness of tone across frequencies and up and down the neck. You really need to try them side by side to hear the differences. The mid bowl of the W597 would make it less bass-y and a bit quieter than the deep bowl 1581. You'd be hard-pressed to find a significantly nicer guitar than the 05C. Just MHO, YMMV.

I've got the '05, the Millennium, which I guess is close to a W597, and the 47RI which is the textured CF top and Serge is right - apples to oranges to mangoes.

The Mill is much brighter sounding than the other two, the neck is thicker (or maybe it's just the profile, but it feels thicker). The 47RI (not really fair to compare this one, but it's the closest I've got to a 1581) just booms. It also sounds a little darker than the other two. The '05, with the thinner feeling, glossed neck, feels almost like playing a solidbody. Soundwise, I would put it between the other two - not as bright as the Mill, and not as dark and loud as the 47.

For fingerpicking, I definitely like the 47 the best, with the Mill close behind. The '05 is much better for strumming and lead - more for the feel than the sound.

I think you should keep the '05 and just add the other two!

I have played all three, the opinions above are spot on.

I really liked mine before a former OFC member stole it with a hot check.
