Yesterday was a perfect day. First I got back safely from MS my beloved deluxe balladeer after some months of vacation in New Hartford. What a pleasant surprise !! The guitar was in need of a neck reset and a deep cleanning of both top and bowl. It was kept bad in its previous life and riched me in such a condition I was forced to let MS work its magic on it. They rescued to life this wonderful guitar. I was sooooo surprised about how it sound. THAT's what I expected from a deluxe balladeer made in 1967. The real beginning of the O'story and the sound and tone that at Ovation searched for years becaming the progenitor of all the guitars to come.
I'm really happy to be the owner of such a piece of history and I LOVE to play and hear the "voice" of this guitar. I'll always keep her along with me to let friends and other musicians "understand" what the "O signature sound" IS. Am I an Ovation fan ?

As you see, the bridge has been relocated as I was told by MS the original one was mounted in a wrong position. It's a matter of fact that a "shadow" is now visible in the place of the original bridge. This has been sligtly stained and I hope it should recover with the exposition to the sunlite and normal use and ageing.
Any thought ?

I don't care about that, as I remeber how the guitar looked before the MS treatment. It's something to remind me that this is a 42 year old guitar.
What I mind is the sound and playability of the guitar that are abolutely fantastic !!!

Second thing. To celebrate the return home of the no.345, in the evening we (SWMBO and me) were at Lucca summer festival to attend the concert of Mr. James Taylor. What a fantastic experience !!
2 hours concert that captured the audience and passed by too quickly. BTW nearly half of the spectators were from the US. I was also able to grant me an autograph of Mr. Taylor. What a nite !!!

More pics to come and few added right now on the ning site.

Way to go Riccardo!

That DB is absolutely gorgeous, even with the suntan line. Another MS masterpiece...

Congrats on JT's autograph. Nice way to top a great day!

Congrats Riccardo! I thought that your DB would be rebuilt with a new top and bowl. Good to see that they could salvage the original guitar. Looks stunning and must sound superb. Yes, you are an Ovation fan!

Ciao!

Ricardo, thanks for sharing the beautiful pics! That is one beautiful guitar.

James Taylor is coming to Lenox, MA on my birthday (August 27), and I'm considering going.

Thanks to all for the kind comments !!

Flick ; I cannot tell why the original bridge was wrongly positioned. I measured the scale lenght right now and it's Ok (25" 1/4). Maybe the old bridge was repositioned by the previous owner(s)...who knows. I got this guitar in 2007.

Karl ; Ciao. Yes all original. I purposly asked MS to be conservative. The only new piece is the bridge as to clean the top the old one have to be removed (sigh !).
I read one post here that to remove and reposition the neck, the bowl should be heated (or somethig like that). Looking inside the bowl it seams that a certain amount of heat has been used.

Michelle ; The concert of JT has been very rewarding to me. If you can, go to see him. I'm a fan of his since I was 17 and never had the chance to see him in concert. Go figure that !! It was a long run but I'm happy know.

Riccardo

PS : more pics of both "event" on ning today

I was thinking that maybe the old bridge was wider (north to south).
I mean they all look five pointed, but there may be subtle differences.

And I could be totally wrong, but I was just kinda researching, y'know?

OMA, that's the old bridge.
It's different but don't think wider. However the string pinball enter inside the wood.

I've been away from the board for a while, who/what is MS?
They have restoration services for our old Ovations?

MS is the MotherShip, aka Ovation in NH. They do a fantastic job on repairs and refurbishing.

There are many fine examples in this forum.

Stunning Riccardo. Saddens me that Ovation has completely abandoned their ground breaking models.
