Location: London, UK | Calling all fellow Magnum owners!
As we know, although its actual scale length is just over 34 inches, the distance from the ball end to the bridge saddle is so long that many brands of normal long-scale strings won't fit: the outer wrap (i.e. the bit you play) needs to be about 37½" long or it'll run out before you get to the nut.
On the other hand, many "Extra Long" string sets don't fit either, because they're too long: you end up having to wind the wrapped section of the E and G strings round the machine-heads - baaaad voodoo. :(
So come on, folks, 'fess up. Which brands of string do you find fit well (and play well/sound good) on this bass? I usually use Nickel Roundwounds, but I'd also be interested to hear about Flats. All suggestions gratefully received! :D |

Don't seem to have a pack of the rounds so I will have to check old receipts and see if I can turn anything up.
Seems the more I think about it, I took the PF to Scott Baxendale (my luthier) and had him set it up and he put the last set of strings on.....which would explain why I am not sure of the brand.
If I remember, next time I see him I will ask. |
