Brown delivered today and upon opening the box and the case inside, I was transported back to 1987...Inside was a pristine 1987 Collectors and all of the original paperwork/case candy...
It is beautiful and sings: it has never been played (until I got it out of the case)...it came directly from the original owner who put it away until two months ago and sold it to the person I bought it from who has a store and never touched it except to take pictures and sell it (to me...)
I'll let the pic's tell the story: we have a mostly overcast day but the sun did manage to peak through...the case is mint as well...I played it for nearly an hour before calling several to tell them the good news...
The guitar has the original COA with the original owners name in calligraphy and on a small brass plate attached to the COA...It also has the original sotry of the making of the 87C as told by the former Gas Station Guy and signed by him on both the COA and the book. Too Cool...Also has the original case keys and the owners manuel...
So, without further a do: here tis:

The pic's do not do justice to the colors in the abalone...greens, blues, pinks, white, etc This is much nicer than the 87C-5 I had sold last year.

Here is the entire album link: just double click on each pic for a large format resolution...
1987-4 Collector

Enjoy!

An absolutely outstanding find! At least it wound up in the hands of one that has a comprehensive understanding and appreciation of that jewel.

The provenance alone is a treasure! Jerome will be tickled with the docs.

NFS...Now or in the future...

Respect? Paulie, as a minister I already get very little, so I'm used to that...lol

But no worries; while I am not clairvoient, I can say with committment and entheusium: This is NFS...Now or in the future...

Beautiful!
Tell ya what, I'll swap ya even for my 88', whatcha say?
HA HA HA
I love my 88' but man that's really pretty.
I would have bought that one over the 88' if I'd seen it first (they didn't have any 87's left in the store at the time).

Darn it Randy, you're right;
;) Actually, the wife's Nikon picks up stuff that my Kodak does not...but the guitar is Glorious...good adjective to use to describe this guitar...it plays like a dream and sounds like angels...really nice...warm overtones...very un-ovation like actuallly...deep bass...but balanced overall...I haven't plugged it in yet....I pretty much know how good the OP-24 sounds....

Mike, a find like this only comes around once in a lifetime, if that. I know you say it'll never be for sale, but please don't let Trader talk you into it. Let ME talk you into it instead! :D :D  :D

Ali, if we can make it to the SD Throwdown, I can guarantee it'll be in tow and you can play it first!
But...it will be coming back home with me...lol

Put on a new set of D'Addario EXP16's last night: the set it came with may have been at least a year old so these added incredibly to the tone...the guitar absolutely sings....the Book Elite (from Dave-to me-to AJ) certainly sounds great as well but there seems to my ear to be sweetness and balance that I did not hear in either the former '87C-5 or the Book...again, it's probably all subjective, but this guitar is awesome...I will try to record something with it to see if I can capture the sound...
Even the wife and kids have commented (well my son just smiled at 2 1/2) how nice this guitar sounds: my daughter of course likes the abalone. SHMBO is generally not a fan of all things Ovation: she loves the Brazilian RW guitars I own...hmmmm)...but she does like the sound of this '87C-4. ;)
