Location: Budd Lake, NJ | I have concluded that the Pacemaker is going to need, at the very least, a good fret dressing and recrowning; I suspect, though, that to do the job right she's going to need to be refretted.
The fretboard itself is very good; minimal marking from finger positions. The frets, though, are grooved. It doesn't affect the sound much, yet, but I should do it right and not let it become an issue.
There is a luthier within a hour's drive who comes very, very highly recommended (by someone who's very, very picky.)
Is there a specific type of fret wire that the Mothership uses, or won't it make much difference? (As in, "You've meet one fret wire, you've met them all...") It's not possible for me to take the trip up there right now, and probably won't be for quite some time.
Thanks for the input (and maybe even the help ;) ),

Location: Utica, NY | I'm certainly no expert but on everything I have ever owned you could tell the difference in different fret wire. The most recent and striking example was coming from the Adamas 1680 which had a substantial fret wire (which I really like and recall there being some previous discussion of it being a special, high grade wire) to the 1778T which has very thin, kinda wimpy wire. It's growing on my but that's just because the memory of the previous neck is wearing off. I have has electric guitars with jumbo and less than jumbo fret wire. It seems to go that better guitars have bigger/better wire in my experience but that may be way off. So, in the end it's probably a preference but it definitely not a 'seen one, seen 'em all' proposition. I am sure you will have options but may very well be limited by the original design of the nut/neck/bridge action. relationship. |

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | Karen, I'd have the Mothership do it if they can right now...you always get more than you expect from them and they will go over everything, set it up to play like new...the 1615-1 they rebuilt for me is one of the sweetest playing 12's I own...
PM me if you have a question... |

Location: Pennsylvania | Karen, thank you for your question. While I'm no help to you, I had questions regarding repair of my Pacemaker that I haven't gotten around to asking yet. Wanted to make my presence known a bit more first.
MM, thank you for your response. You answered one of the questions I had. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | Not all frets are equal, but I wouldn't worry about it. They might just need a good leveling and the guy can do that. Saves the shipping charges and chance of damage. |
