Wow! Unfortunately the recording itself is not all that great. Unfortunate, because the performance is astonishing.

It's Tommy and Phil Emmanuel playing Rondo alla Turca Medley .

Two GREAT guitarists playing wonderfully!

And what's the Ovation the guy on the right (pretty sure it's Phil) is playing? Rarely, I'm guessin', is a guitar put through its paces more completely and effectively!

There was a pretty strange O sighting the other night. I was watching Tosh.0 and this came up. The sighting is at 3:28 - an Ultra GP. I apologize in advance for the rest of the video

It's the 5th video down.

On the Emmanuel video, looks as though someone took a BIG bite out of the upper-right part (at about 2 o'clock) of the rosette. It's a divot that would please Jack Nicklaus. At first I thought it was jsut the poor quality of the video, but it stayed right there the whole time. Is THIS how the Emannuels treat their guitars?!?!?

Yet ANOTHER wonderful 'O' sighting...this time it's an Adamas, and Tommy E. is playing "Summertime" with violinist Nigel Kennedy.

It's here .

The Adamas sounds just gorgeous! Deep, round, full sound with plenty of punch. And, of course, it doesn't hurt that it's in the hands of a master.

What kind of 'A' is it?

While Tommy went on to become the greatest guitarist in the world, what happened to Phil?

Apparently still playing...I found something by him from 2009 in my YouTube travels. (Not bad at all, or course!) Also, apparently he's the father (unconfirmed) of one Jesse Emmanuel, an attractive pop-pish guitarist/singer who is on YouTube in several videos. She seems ok, if you like the style, but VERY different stylistically. All this gleaned from YouTube travels, so not necessarily completely reliable.

That is some great guitar playing on a great guitar. Anyone notice the guitar slipping at the 1:56 mark? He had to pull it back up.

Have I mentioned how much I love the contour bowl design...LOL!

I looked close at the 1st video, it's a piece of electrical tape or some other kind of tape.
You can see where the edge is squared off and extends out past the rosette and that goes into the bowl and is wraped downwards.
Who knows why?

Anyone know what models they're playing in the respective videos?

Great video but it's pretty old. When I met Tommy at the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society annual convention in Nashville a few weeks ago he is a LOT older than he is in that video, at least 20 years. His playing is much more mature now as well. A lot less 'look how fast I can play' & more 'precise' now, although he's incredibly fast. Fabulous guitar player, great showman & a very nice guy. He spent a long time signing things after his first show, including at least one guitar that I saw. The first time I bumped into him was in the elevator at the Music City Sheraton.

Btw, if any of you can possibly get to Nashville next year July 7-10 I HIGHLY reccomend attending the convention. We're going back next year for sure.

Thanks, Nils...Gotta love the CAAS videos! Tommy's still just amazing.

Sooooooooo...was anyone able to identify the Ovation model that Tommy was playing in the first video at the top of the thread?

1617 or 1627. Most likely 1617. Mostly likely mid to late 70's model...
