I am thinking of getting a Elite T 2058 TX-5 for a long time but there is no 12 string Ovation at all to be sold in Turkey... So I am biding my time til I get the chance to try out one in Germany.
Today I went to Istanbul and had the chance to try out a 2078 TX-5, which I think must be the 6 string sister of the 2058 TX-5... and was absolutely disappointed. Muffled, reverbing bass, huge differences of loudness between the strings (the D producing a strange resonance I didn´t like too)... Maybe I had bad luck and tried out one which turned out badly.
The only good side to it: I was happy to get back home to my Pinnacle CU 147. The baby sings! :) Funny though it´s Korean made as well as the 2078 TX... Must be the AA grade Sitka spruce top. Anyway, it´s hard to wait until I get to try some decent 12 strings... God give me patience...

By the way: I found some extra light coated Ernie Balls and was surprised they sounded so bright, not as if they had been played for weeks... The baby sings with them as well :)

S'funny how some guitars have a more resonant note, the trick is to accomodate it, play that note softer.

I have a pristine Japanese Pinnacle 3862 and I haven't sold her yet because she sounds SO pretty. Yes, she 'sings' also!

Good luck with your hunt!

The US made 2078 T is well loved. Maybe that one you tried was defective or had really bad strings on it?

Maybe the strings were bad... but the 2078 TX I tried had this Made in Korea sticker on the back of its headstock... I really don´t know...
