And how that Tupperware cat thought they were the best wood top Ovations ever but Moody didn't really see it that way. Then after a few minutes of playing some lead licks behind Paul's performance of "City of New Orleans", The Moody One looked at me and declared it was an awesome sounding guitar and he could never sell it. Too bad because I was going to try and lowball him for it.

Congrats on a fine guitar!
@Stonebobbbo: Thanks a lot for this post. It is exactly what I think of this guitar. It's a "wolf in a sheep costume" (I'm not sure if everyone gets this phrase, it's a poor translation of a common german... uh.. phrase? sorry ^^ - I'm sure there is an american phrase which is more common)

The FD14 looks so simple (and in someway "cheap") and is probably very often understated. But, I am not fooling you, since I own it, not a single day has passed that I haven't played this guitar. I am completly posessed by it's tone and playability. I really can't find any words that would come up to the joy and fun I am having playing her. I spent more of a complete months wage to get it and I really am in financial trouble now, but I don't regret it at all... (I'm getting pathetic, ain't I?)

@galler... dave...
I see what you're saying. I still would love to know more. Is there any way to find out how many "new" models where made and for what cause and what so ever? And is anyone aboard here that has another "unnumbered" FD 14?

Cheers!

Meuti

Meuti,

like Charlie and Dave said - it is (or was) possible for european distributors to order some of those "limited" guitars as special orders.
So happened with the FD14 as well as with the 1651 Ltd. Reissue - that was originally built (100 pieces) for the japanese market only. The so called JL3 (1651 Ltd.) for example was a "regular" model, that had to be specially ordered by dealers, for the german market.

To find out more about it you should check with the KMC distributors - which will be not too easy, since the/some european distributors are no longer Kaman distributors.

Best regards,
Kurt

Hey Kurt,

mh, seems like it's rather hopeless to get more information then. Oh well, after all it's not that important. It's a great guitar and this is what counts I guess ;)

Does anyone know if there were ever any Ovation sales brochures or catalog sheets for the FD-14 model?

I think I've only seen a foreign magazine review on Jerome's site?
Jerome's sight is incredible...

My guitar is the one in the picture... literally. Can anybody spot what's unique about it?

That's either a Slimline pickup or a bone saddle, not the OPP.

Odd placement for a strap button on an Ovation.

Just out of curiosity... I understand the FD designation, but where does the "14" come from on a '12 fret to the body' guitar???

I believe it's the pimped 1614. The "16" got replaced by "FD".

I think you're right, Meuti. It's the deluxe Folklore 1614. The 4 is the original designation for the Josh White, later Folklore.
