Soundwise it's hard to tell because every guitar sounds a tab bit different. I've heard LTDs that were completely "dead" and others that were among the best of any ovation out there. Let your ears decide. |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | My 1768C is one of the loudest wood tops I've played, and it's definitely not the most expensive one I've owned. I think the design of the 1768 is what makes it what it is. It IS interesting how one guitar of the same design can sound, feel, and play different than another. I believe there are a lot of factors in the production process that can produce different results. We've discussed on this board before, little problems caused by things like the nut having a small variance due to a groove being too deep or too tight, or the saddle not resting completely on the bridge in one place or another, or one too many or too less shims, or a loose truss rod screw, or warpage on the neck. I think other factors come into play also, like the integrity of the specific piece of wood used in the neck, or glue joints. Those who work with wood understand how a piece of wood can look good on the outside, but have a bad spot inside or under the surface. I can imagine how a little thing like that could effect the difference in one instrument and another. That's a good reason for playing a guitar before you buy it.(Sorry about rambling on but...) I remember going into Elderly Instruments in Lansing one day and going through a whole rack of about 25 high-end Taylors(814s/914s). I played the same thing on every one of them, and there were some big differences between some of them. Another frequently overlooked issue is the type, quality, and age of the strings. |

Location: Huntington Beach | I get what you're saying. I played many Ovations before settling on my 1617 in 1979. I think a big factor is how our body and fingers react with an instrument. Got lucky with a couple O's and a Taylor off ebay that play and sound beautiful. I have a 1990 1768 that I like better all around over the 1617 - except the rosewood fretboard. The 1768-7LTD appears to have an ebony board. Are there any other structural differences between the 1768s? |

Are all 1768 neck profiles the same? Feels a little chunkier than my 1617. Truss rod differences I guess. Anyone here AB'd the LTD with other models?
Thanks |

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | When I was working there, all the necks were a little different. Some were thicker, some were shaped a little differently. My old 1617 has a K-bar neck, and yet it is thinner than ANY of my other O's. |
