Location: Utica, NY | I did a quick search but don't find much info on the OP40 preamp. What's the lowdown on these, likes and dislikes? How are they vs. say the newer Op-Pro, Studio etc? Tuner good? Output good? Sound good? Idiosyncrasies? Do they need to be 'plugged in' to tune? Thanks. |

Location: Upper Left USA | The OP30 was a major step forward and the OP50 is my favorite along with the OP PRO Studio and the Optima.
The OP40 is just a transition between the 30 and 50 so it is easily overlooked.
I like the OP's much more than the OP24 series. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | How in the hell can ovation make an OP40 tuner that works normally (don't have to plug in) and on the others they force you to plug in. Yet if you leave it plugged in you drain the battery. I am 100% baffled by the logic. |

Curious 'bout the 'logic'... |

Now if they could incorporate some solar panels to suck up the stage lights or a Magneto with matching wrist band to generate power from the strumming motion then we'd have something!
For now, I just Wet-Willie the XLR jack. |

You're right, but that's because it's a shitty design. You should be able to push a "tuner" button and activate power to only the tuner circuitry, which draws almost nothing. |

Not OP-50, Op-Pro, or Studio.
Not sure if the problem is still in the newer VIP's. |
