The little Trekker was not what I had hoped for. But nevermind that. My UTE, AD-II, & VXT do at least what's expected of them. But now, for the first time, I think I have an over-achiever. It's that GC special mid-bowl Elite LX model. Glossy black with the spauled maple eppy. For whatever reason, this particular guitar has "it". I've never picked up a guitar like it that had "it" like this one has "it". The exeception might be Mr. Wongs flamed Elite he brought to the last tour. Bobbo also played that one and declared it special. I've said many times that my least favorite color was glossy black but this guitar makes it easy to over look that issue. I won't try to convey the sound this has with words but this thing is so alive that I can feel the bowl really vibrate on my rib cage. Anyone else ever have an "over-achiever"?

I have yet to find anything that has the smooth balance tone and easy playability. The UTE is just what I expected, and everthing it is suppposed to be. My 1115 is nice, pretty much what I expect but just harder for me to fingerpick which is a shortcoming on my end not the guitar. In the end the 1767 is the one that is above and beyond. If I had to sell all but one the 1767 with its twist in the neck and buldges in the top would have to stay. Brad, Have you posted photos of the GC special?

It also has "it": and it is simply awesome! I have owned many O's and A's...like Brad I have never been disappointed in a purchase...but these two instruments are above and beyond...and the OFC II is the most incredible sounding KMC instrument I have ever owned...it has to be heard to be believed. It will be with me at every gathering I attend from now on. I will record with it as soon as I have some uninterrupted time: due to what I do and with the seasons upon us, it may take a few weeks...

Among other dramas, chaos has engulfed the world of Slipkid. Thing is of all the other simular models I've played, none have ever made me say... "WOW!". I'm pleased to hear that others can claim they also have an "it" guitar.

Not only are these guitars fun to play, other musicians are wowed by the quality of the sound. From a player standpoint, all of the Ovations in the family have given more pleasure than their price would indicate.

Joined: April 2006 Posts: 2491 Location: Copenhagen Denmark | Well .. of course my 1537 and my 1618 have that " it " .. but what else can be expected from over three decades Old Solid Tops .. ?? .. but if a non-Ovi can be included ? .. My Washburn , model J9 , which is an Electric-Acoustic Arch-Top , and really is an Electric .. an "AXE " , the acoustic chamber is only meant to influence the way it`s strings vibrate , and is therefor NOT meant t` be played as an acoustic , .. and yet ,.. I play that one late in the evening , as it`s volume should be too low to be booming thru` t` house .. And that`s where the " it " factor comes in , although Not as Loud/ Voluminous as the 1537 / 1617 / 1618 or the Dread ,... played Acoustically it goes surprisingly loud , and , Very Even in Tone , .. Wolf-Tones are rather subdued , perhaps due to it`s " Buzz - Feiten " tuning system , .. as I thought that it had a " Laminate- Top " , it turns out that a Solid - Top is employed , the Chamber is only around 2 " deep , there`s a wood - block connecting Top to Backplate , to fend-off Feedback , it feels rather .. " solid - heavy`ish " .. it is painted in Black , and I , DISLIKE black gits. , but , when I saw it in the window from the music - store , my eldest Son told me .. " Pa , I know that U do n`t like black gits. , but that one was made for U " .. Him and his Ma bought it for me ( `bout 5 yrs` ago ) , I said " Thank you " .. and thought .." `Kay then " , .. Only t` find out that my Little boy is Right !! ( he`s now 25 and studying law ) . How can a Thin-Bodied Git. , sound that Good Acoustically ?? .. it has put me ( a born sceptic ) under it`s spell .. It is Impossible , it can not be True .. .. and yet .. This spurs of the thought about , should I call it .. " Myths " .. Solid -Top versus Laminate - Top , .. Big Peghead vs Small P H , or , the " Buzz - Feiten " tuning system .. ? .. or perhaps just simply , .. ..it`s the J-9 having that " IT " .. Vic

And while we're on the subject of "it", here's both Brad's and my "it"s in the same pic! The "It" Gits That lusty red in the foreground is the reason for my fleet of 1778Ts. I have gone through 7 other 1778Ts and counting, hoping to find a second guitar that sounds like Rosalita. The search continues. Rosie, you're the one.

Joined: January 2006 Posts: 2120 Location: Chicago | The Adamas 1581-5 that I bought from Stephen is simply the best acoustic--unplugged--anything I've ever held. Plugged in it dominates as well: the recordings on our page (link below, same as demo CD) were done live with NO effects at all: just the Bose PA. I am having some pickup and set-up issues at the moment but that's no big deal (my 1117 steps in nicely). Gotta say that the (resin) walnut neck is simply sublime! The deep bass the "muscular" high register. What more can a guy as for?
