I have an old Ovation Celebrity solid body electric and I need to replace the floating bridge/trem. It had the factory system which was pretty basic but I'd like to replace it with a Floyd Rose. Does anyone have one of these guitars that you've replaced the bridge. I'm wondering if a Floyd Rose would be easy to put into it or if it would take alot of extra modification. Thanks for any help with this.

I think the relevant question would be "why?" A Celebrity isn't exactly a high-end guitar. A genuine Rose bridge would be worth more than the guitar.

I have the same problem on the one I have ... the bridge block pretty much disintegrated. I haven't found any parts that would fit the bill, but a complete Floyd Rose would drop in without too much trouble. But like TUS said, the cost is prohibitive - a Schaller Floyd Rose is gonna cost $250. You might just keep a lookout for a complete guitar on eBay, which I've seen go for around $100, and scavenge parts from that. You can also buy knockoffs bridges on eBay, but be careful with the dimensions to make sure it'll fit. Good luck.

Those had a number of different types of bridges. A photo would be helpful.

Hey sdmf! Nice to see another Dakotan here, even if you are from that "North" one! Cant help you with the FFR as I call them. (I HATE Floyd Rose bridges! What a pain in the neck to work on!) But I think even a licensed FFR would cost more than the guitar is worth by the time you included your labor.

So, do you ever make it down to the Black Hills? It's worth the trip, not only for the incredible scenery, but I hear there is a really good music store in Hot Springs. :D Welcome to the OFC!

I have an extra Wonderbar I was going to use for a different project.

It would just sit over the existing hole. 4 screws. And I like them WAY better than a Floyd.

You'll hafta rout out the body some with a Floyd too.

That is a Killer lookin' piece of Machinery, Damon.

I have had Three guitars will Floyds. A Zombie, a Bich, and a Warlock. I do not like Floyds.

I never use a tremolo anyway. But I have learned how to set-up and maintain Floyds.
They are a pain, and even after I block them with a roll of pennies you have to adjust them if you change string gauges. And the little blocks will fall-out when you change the strings, and you will never find them. And you gotta cut the ball off of the strings and... Should I continue?

But they do increase the resale value...
Cuz most people think that they are Great... until they actually have one!

But that Wonderbar looks much nicer. (but I still don't use a whammy-bar)

You could probably find an Ultra GS with a Kahler for around $200 (I got mine from a guy in Bismarck and wasn't even trying). I've heard a few reports that the Kahlers are better than Floyds, but I am no electric guitar authority.

OMA, I've been using one for years. My 2nd guitar was fitted with one.

Someone somewhere has a pic of Mr. Big wailing away on it too!

Thanks for all the responses.

I know a Floyd would be worth more than the guitar, but I'm really partial to this guitar. Other than the bridge, the rest of it is in great shape and it has great tone. It's a really solid cheap guitar. I also put in a Seymour Duncan pickup a while back which is also worth more than the guitar itself, but really made it sound great, I think anyway.

I'll look into a Kahler to see if it would work. I'm not too concerned about the whammy, I just really want to find something that will fit and make it playable. I wouldn't mind a fixed bridge, but I don't want to leave a gaping hole where the old bridge was. I'll try to get a couple pics up for visual.

Hey Alison, I have been down to the Black Hills quite a bit. You're right, very beautiful country. Deadwood kicks ass, always a fun time. Thanks for all the help.

This link describes my guitar: http://www.ovationuk.co.uk/page134.html

The pic of the red guitar on the bottom is identical to mine.
