Hey just bought two (yes two) of these. It was a crazy price so had to do it.

Select pressure tested solid spruce top, solid rosewood back and sides, mahogany neck, fingerboard and bridge is rosewood.

It won the Acoustic Guitar of the year honors in the 2008 Acoustic Guitar magazine Players' Choice Awards! And Peppino plays one of these so it must be quite good.

I believe it's also got a wide neck. Seagull makes great guitars....

I like Godin acoustics as well. Made in Canada and very affordable. Most Seagulls do have a wide neck (1.8 inches). I'm partial to the lesser known Simon & Patrick and Norman guitars. Their neck widths are more traditional 1.72 inches.

That logic always seems to make sense to my wife when SHE buys something ... but if I try to apply it to guitars it is immediately followed by a whack upside the head.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is "pressure tested" spruce?

Probably standard hardness testing with maybe some other proprietary measurements along the way.

Select Pressure Tested Solid Tops
A guitar produces sound as a result of the vibration of its strings. What's not so obvious is the role that the guitar top plays in amplifying these vibrations. In fact, the vibration of the top is the most important factor in a guitar's sound. Solid top guitars offer richer sound and wider dynamic range (they play better at both soft and loud volume levels). The most interesting thing about a solid top guitar is that it will actually sound better over time (see AGING). All Seagull guitars are made with select pressure tested solid tops. Each solid top is made from a single layer of Spruce or Cedar and is pressure tested to ensure its highest level of rigidity and stiffness along with maximum harmonic vibration. The extraordinary wood used in Seagull guitars comes from trees that are hundreds of years old. The tight, straight grain in this wood produces a unique combination of strength and flexibility. The top is strong enough—in the direction of the grain—to withstand the pull of the strings, while at the same time it's flexible enough—across the grain—to vibrate freely.

So "pressure tested" is marketing spew for "selected by tap tone" just like any other better guitar.

That's an optional extra, I'm going to be mic'ing so don't need pickup.

I don't think it is "selected by tap tone" as much as flex/force tested. That will determine the stiffness of the plate.
