Saw the show in High Def on a big screen last night ... almost four hours long, and was wondering who else was watching it.

I kept thinking how it was better than being there, since I HATE crowds of any kind. I couldn't believe how good those old geezers were still singing and playing. It was great!

Paul Simon looks like he's on the border of insanity, but his performance was still great, and to watch/hear him play/sing with Art Garfunkle was just wonderful. Stevie Wonder was awesome, too. At one point, he became overwhelmed and started to weep; I was very touched ~ seriously! CSN&Y were excellent, and I just couldn't get over how well David Crosby can still sing. Steven Stills was VERY cool on lead guitar.

Jeff Beck came out in some sleeveless shirt, and I was thinking to myself, good grief, man, put a REAL shirt on. I mean, it wasn't like he had toned arms. Aretha was gigantic but wonderful, and Jerry Lee Lewis is still(literally) "kickin' it". Of course BB King was superb, too.

I went to bed after two hours, but I recorded it, so I'll be watching the rest of it tonight.

;)

yup I saw all 4 hours of it on lo definition tv.
some observations
steven stills great guitarist but his voice is gone
nash and crosby still got it

jerry lee was missing a ton of notes it was a rather sad performance IMHO but at 75 I wish I play that well

metallica and Lou reed? well they did a good enough version of sweet jane but hell I could have done that.

Ozzy was obnoxious but I guess I was never a true fan.

U2 with patti smith and bruce springsteen was a treat but I thought the springsteen segment at the end went on a little too long

beck with sting? ewwwwwwww missed rod on that tune. beck played well but too much whammy bar for my tastes.

stevie wonder could have done without stink ehhhh...sting but it was a great set although BB king seemed uninspired. I did think that stevie's band was a little too rehearsed maybe a little too vegas I prefer the rawer performances.

my thoughts for what they are worth

Ozzie was beyond obnoxious. He was a vulgar jerk. Just Ozzie being Ozzie I guess. I liked the music. Stills can play guitar but can't sing. Crosby and Nash's harmonies may have been the highlight of the show. Here Comes the Sun was very moving for me. The filming and editing were excellent with really good close ups of the guitar work. I did notice that Ozzie, John Fogarty and Jeff Beck all had too much hair for guys their age. Must be some type of weave, but only their hairdresser knows for sure.

Yeah, man! LOL What's up with that? Jagger, too. Everyone's hair looked terrific! Or maybe fake?

Highlight for me was U2, Jagger and Fergie. What a combo! And more importantly, they sounded darn good. Though I always find an artist or band better when they're doing their own shows, it's fun to see a bunch of big names on one stage without sound corny. Overall I think everyone for the most part has "still got it".

Recorded but haven't watched it yet.

In the previews, CSN sounded horrid to me (and I'm a big fan), but perhaps it was only Stills that ruined it. Couldn't tell from the snippet.

C'mon, Al ... as you said, Jerry Lee did miss a few notes, but at that age, he was still VERY cool. Smokey Robinson, who I always enjoyed, needs a new tailor and if Jackson Browne gets one more botox injection he's going to look like Mickey Rourke! He sang well (for him) though, don't you think? I'm not a real big fan of HIS, either.

I think everyone's hair, including (duh!) Aretha's was fake, haha. What a bunch of old geezers, including Springsteen, who I didn't stay up long enough to see. I'm sort of Springsteen-ed out...

"Stink" ... how appropriate ... I laughed when I read that. Perfect! I think he stole my shirt for that performance, actually.

I still thought it was fun to see, and I agree with your comment about Simon & Garfunkle!

Patti Smith? Oh, I don't even think I want to see her ... I might turn to stone! As for Ozzie, well, couldn't they have just left him OUT altogether? I'm looking forward to seeing U2 tonight.

;)

and who was the guitar player for paul simon was it GE smith? it sure looked like him but I could not tell for sure whoever it was needed a new wardrobe really bad.

Good eye, Al! I think it WAS G.E. Smith ... man, call the Fashion Police! I wanna make an arrest!

OK; I'll be kinder to Patti ... has she shaved her face lately? Last time I saw her she desperately needed to ... sorry ... I can't help it ... aren't they all rich enough to practice SOME personal grooming?

I just watched the first half and I have to take back what I said about CSN and Stills from the preview. It was actually quite good. Stills may not have the range he once had, but I thought he did just fine.

Simon and Garfunkel still have the magic. They always seem to put new little vocal twists in the old classics.

Here Comes The Sun was just great. Took me back to when Simon did it with George on SNL so many years ago.

OK; maybe I'm possessed. I'm sorry, OK? I know she's cool. I don't dispute that; and she's a very, very intelligent woman also ... is that better?

LOL! Oh, "Jersey Girls" get such a bad rap! However, as a native Jersey girl myself, I would much rather be like Patti Smith (without the facial hair) than those disgusting bimbos on "The Real New Jersey Houswives", or whatever the hell that ridiculous show is called. Now, to me, those women are particularly GROSS in general ... go figure. Sigh.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the only 'O' sighting of the evening. Steven Van Zandt playing an Ovation Mandolin.
Nice to see the Ovation epaulets make an appearance.

Hey Grif! Good to see you!

I wouldn't own a TV if you gave me one so I didn't see it. I'll just let you folks guide me to which performances are worth seeing and check them out on youtube later. Thanks.

Patti Smith is/was very photogenic - lots of strong portrait shots of her. Her music was pretty good for the most part. R&R hall of fame don't innarest me too much though - doubt I would have lasted through more than 10 minutes of that hype.
