i went to the local guitar store ( huber breeze )today to have the once a year 1598merb strings changed.i supplied the strings and the charge to me was $15.00.it took the tech about 20 minutes and it was the best $15.00 i have spent in a while.
the store only has 3 ovation guitars in their display area and they are selling all ovations at 50% off.
i asked the owner about it and again he said he is trying to get rid of them.i asked if he could get adamas guitars and he said you want an adamas  .he said yes and that he was just at the mothership 2 weeks ago watching them make ( i think he said ) guild guitars.
i guess ovation and adamas are still considered one of the most disrespected guitars of the guitar world.GWB

I don't know which part is harder to believe?

That you would pay someone to change your strings or the insinuation of Ovation liquidations.

I'm thinking that it might be worth $15 to get my T12 changed...
So long as I could watch! Maybe get some pointers.

Naw... I'd be telling him he was doing it wrong! :p

I always have the local guitar store change the the strings on my 12 'ers because i can't see what I'm doing! They charge me $5.00. $15.00 is ridiculous! Yes, I could do it myself, but because I'm blind when it comes to close up work, it's just easier to have it done for me.

I charge myself $15 each time I change strings. It's the only way I can make any money these days living on a fixed income.

im like willa , i watched the guy do it and picked up a couple pointers a couple of years ago and when i tried it it took me about 2 hours because after about the fourth string i couldn't see the eyes on the tuners to thread the strings thru so i was using a magnifying  glass to see that close up i said bulldung it was worth every bit of $15.00.
while they do it i just go hang out in the acoustic room and play high dollar guitars that i will never own so well worth the money to me.ive been dealing with these guys at this store for over 15 years and all of them are players and professional repairers with a good historys so i trust with my guitars .
by the way that is how i got started on adamas and ovation guitars.i brought in my 1966 epiphone john lennon casino to get appraised and setup and i went into the acoustic room and found an adamas millinuem that i thought was cool.i couldn't afford it then but i walked out of there with a cs 257 and that is how it all started.

oh almost forgot one of the ovations he had was the heroin one.GWB

Maybe you should try changing one string yourself each month instead of having all 12 changed once a year… then you could pocket $1.25/month and have at least a couple of relatively-fresh strings at any given time?

;)

Nothing wrong with that. The Huber folks are nice and I am sure you had some good BSing back and forth while they did the stringing.

Three words... Patterson Strobe Tuner.

Makes changing a 12-sting a breeze, takes about twice the time it takes to do a 6-sting... go figure.
