Just thought I'd start a new thread in anticipation of getting my new Ovation 6778 LX.

I've been using an Applause AE127 for some years and recently treated myself to a 2nd hand S868, which I love by the way.

Anyhow during my research into buying a "better" Ovation (better than the Applause that is) it occurred to me that as a UK resident (and one that is due to be visiting Austin, TX soon) that it might be financially shrewd to pick up a new Ovation whist state side.

Cut a long story short -- I've just bought a Elite 6778 LX.

Here's the thing -- in the UK that guitar would cost me $2000, by buying in US even with UK TAX added it will set me back about $700 so a pretty hefty saving. (Work are paying for flight etc so it's not as if I even have to factor that in).

No I have not tried the guitar but I would imagine bearing in mind the heritage etc that it will be OK.

So as I wait for my trip to arrive I wonder what thoughts people might have on how the LX Elites compare to a 2001 Elite Special...

Answers, silly or otherwise (I got the message), welcome ;)

I had a 6778LX for a few years. You'll get all the modern improvements. All the CNC stuff came along after the Elite Special.

New neck design and the GS bowl will make your new guitar noticeably lighter. The neck profile is different; No "V" to acomadate the K-Bar. The 5-pc neck instead of the 2-pc is nice. Gloss top. I love the OpPro in the LX guitars, and if you like you can modify to include XLR-out. Oh, also inlaid Eppies around the soundholes.

Enjoy! John <>{

In general...Computerized Numerical Controlled. It's the way a lot of things are manufactured today.

Specifically in guitar making, these machines enable things to be made much more precisely and quickly than ever before. They also enable guitar makers to do things they could only imagine years ago.

You really ought to hop a ride with the other UKers and come to the factory this fall. You'd be impressed.

Put some air locks on the lower epaulet holes on the 6778LX. Even though there's only one large hole and three small ones it really improves the bass.

Or, get it in the Vintage Natural finish, which only has bass side eppis.

It's a bit late to suggest a different model.

Indeed!

Actually I wanted a natural but no-one had them - at least no-one had then at £300!

Update:

stuck some new strings on the S868, cleaned with Dunlop 65 and boy it's a great sound etc...

I cannot wait to try the 6778, hard to imagine it could be 'better'.

I think I can see where this is going...

I'm gonna end up keeping both!

The AE127 is for the 'bay - and long live DADGAD!

You won't be disappointed by a 677LX.
