Hello,

I'm in contact with a guy in France whom is the owner of a special Adamas guitar.
This is a W597 model equipped with an Optima pre-amp and with non usual dark epaulets.
According the owner, these epaulets are made with carbon.
The label only says W597 and nothing else but there's a sticker on the case where it's written "Adamas Dark Blue Prototype".
What's your opinion???
Did you ever seen this model before?

I'm waiting for more detailed pictures...

J :)

This is a very interesting looking guitar. I think the CVT adamas came out about a year before the Optima so it would not seem to me that this is a very early W597. But I could be wrong.

That top looks very nice, but once again they used that cheap looking white binding.

I like the White Binding on some guitars but Vince, your way right on this one. With all the black features, that this one has, a black binding would really nail the look. Black Bridge and Nut as well.

Wonder how this sounds.

I agree with Dave because usually it's written on the label when it's a proto.
I'll add new detailed pics as soon as I gat them. ;)

You could get some carbon-fiber design contact paper and make your eppies look like that. Except that stock W597s don't have the perky eppies so something else seems to be up with this guitar.

It is a very cool looking 597. Could the Optima have been a retrofit?

If it has XLR, then the Optima is original.

Hi Jerome,

I think like Bob. Be careful, I've never seen or heard of a guitar like this one. Ask MS for more information if you want to buy it.

I really like that color also. I believe this is one of those that would look good without the epaulets, and without the white trim (I know, I said that already) Single side holes (Kaki King style with black), no eppis, and all black trim, saddle and nut.

Looks not "special" to me. Stock pre 2001/2-CVT in blue with handmade, painted or covered shitty looking epaulettes. Tru- Balance-Pickup was stock these days.

Btw: The first CVT's and SMT's had the "outies". Innies came in, let's say, 2001-2003.

Best regards,
Kurt

In the hi-res pic you see clearly that the smaller holes at the bottom are "hand cut".

Still a stock CVT with bad custom epaulettes for me.

Best regards,
Kurt

Kurt,

I had the same feeling when I saw the pictures for the first time.
But nothing is sure and I've asked for the serial number.
We should get more info soon... ;)

With the precious help of K.K from the factory, this guitar is now identified and it's a nice story:
"Your guitar was one of three samples built for Artist Relations and shipped on September 12, 2000.
It is listed in the order as a W597-X. The -X generally means the guitar was customized in some way and is non-standard in some way.
It was built for an artist (I can't tell who) in the USA"

I'm not sure that this one could be called a prototype in a sense but it's a special guitar by anyway. ;)

I take this opportunity to thank the guys from New Hartford for their kindness and for the attention that they give us.
That's also why I love O's...

J ;)

Jonmark, the epaulets seems to be in carbon but I didn't ask to Kim so I can't give you more infos.

Kurt, I'm more interested by the story of the guitar than the guitar herself...
The asking price is too expensive to my eyes (+/- 2OOO€) and I'm still interested with old/vintage O's.
I've never been a fan of the SMT & CVT series but it's an interesting guitar!!! ;)
