Two days ago I took delivery of a beautiful O 1615. I purchased it from Canterbury strings and I think this guitar has done MANY miles at this stage. Starting out in LA then onto TJ, Canterburystrings and then finally across the atlantic to me in Ireland.
She is a beautiful guitar and I am delighted with her. However the trip across the atlantic has shaken the electrics loose inside. Canterburystrings packed her SO well its such a surprise that this happened - but the battery holder/case moved around a fair bit and has pulled the pickups wires loose, pulled the connection that was holding the wires in place of the body inside and also disloged the volume control to such an extent that when turning it from 1 to 10 the entire knob moves instead of just the dial. So I think the device inside that it is connected to has also come loose.
So - anyone have a pacemaker owner manual that might point me in the right direction for remedying the situation? It would help to know how the system goes together so that I can make an attempt to fix what has come loose. She is such a mint condition 1615 that I want to make sure that the job is done properly. I haven't been able to tune it up yet as I need to be able to get access to the parts inside to position them :(
Any help would be appreciated. I am going to be off the air for a few hours but will check back later this evening.

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | Wow Paul, I'm so sorry! I was so worried about cracks caused by temperature, and when you e-mailed that it had arrived intact I was so relieved. If you want to pursue the insurance, I'll work with you at this end and see what we can do. Maybe you can get it repaired and the insurance will cover it. Anyone who can advise, please chime in. I know that some of you have complained about the USPS being a bit tough to deal with, especially when something is shipped overseas. Any input will be welcomed. |

The owners manuals are pretty generic and I doubt would offer the level of detail you're looking for. Jerome has the parts catalog on his website, but again I don't know how much help they will be. Check these two links out:

The battery holder screw needs a 1/4 turn to tighten it. A little fussy to line up but no big deal after you slacken the strings. Detune all of them so there is not an imbalance on the tension on the bridge, neck, and guitar in general. |

I've upgrated 2 of them with new and modern preamps
(OP-40 and VIP-5). I still have the old ones at home.
If you need any spare parts, feel free to let me know. You can get it for the shipping costs.

Alison - you could not have packed the guitar any better than you did, really. I could see all the effort that you put in with all the paper protection. Seems that it must have gotten a bang or some sort of violent action to cause the damage. Persuing USPS may be a waste of time. The guitar itself is unblemished on the outside and so I'd be very happy just to get the pickup working again. I really do appreciate all your help in getting it to me, please don't worry yourself. You were a joy to deal with through the whole process.
Nick B - Those articles are very helpful - Now i know how to deal with the battery holder - i.e. which way to slide the opening. Many thanks for your kind reply.

Location: Ireland | wow - she is a beautiful guitar. Really nice in its natural presentation. Such an impressive job with the fitting of the new pickup/electrics. I think I may be consulting you a bit more if I run into some trouble if you don't mind.
I will post pitures of mine, once I have everything secured and in place. You can search back to see the pics when TJ was selling it to Alison.
I'm itching to play her - can just hear the full sound in my head.
Spent a many happy summers playing the Irish bars in Frankfurt and Munich in my college years. Have many great life long friends in Munich and Ingolstadt.

Location: Ireland | Hmmmm....she is very beautiful - thanks TJ for that and for provding such a gem to the OFC. I'm afraid though this will be her last home, I can't see me ever parting with her. I have two guitars at the moment an old trusty Takamine EN20C workhorse which is 16 years old and a Martin HD28 which is 12 years old. She is older than both of them, but looks like she's just left the factory!!

Location: South of most, North of few | That's what struck me when I first opened the case, it looked like it was brand new. I got it from another OFCer, Geneo. A rare find to be sure. Enjoy it. If I didn't have a 1758 at the time, it would probably still be here. (who am I kidding?) :rolleyes: |

I loved the looks and the sound of this guitar, but although I have tried several times over the years to get into playing a 12 string, it just isn't for me. In a few years I'll probably get the hankering to try one again. I'm sure TJ will have something for me when I do. :D |

It's not a mess. I know the way, I've postet a lot of links in the threads. This time it dosn't work. May be I've forgotten a space between the typing and the link or what ever... I'll be sure, next time it will be work again.
With Paul's guitar, I remember, it was postet by Geneo in Oct. or Nov. last year. It was postet and in the same night gone. I want to buy it for myself, too. But as I saw it, it was allready sold.
Now, I'm happy, because I've a nice one,too and Paul's beauty still stays at the family.

Location: Ireland | Good to hear from another OFC member from Ireland. The pacemaker is in with a luther at the moment to fix some loose wires that came loose during the shipping from the US. Should be getting her back on Friday and then it'll be time to plug her in and hear her sing!
Yep Jimbob, the national holiday is nearly upon us and the pacemaker will be helping pay for her purchase at a pub gig in Dublin over the weekend!!! |

Location: Ireland | Just to say why I didn't fix her myself - there was some sauldering work needed and I couldn't go near such a beautiful example as this pacemaker, half cocked, with a sauldering iron. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if I caused her damage. |
