So I'm talking to Kim Keller a couple of years ago about getting some ebony tuner buttons for my '97 Collector's, and as often happens when one Ovation whacko talks to another, the conversation begins to wander pretty far afield of the original topic. Somehow I wind up bringing up my long-unfulfilled desire of obtaining a mandocello. They're just too expensive. Even the eBay ones tend to break into 4 figures, and I just can't swing that. Kim makes a snide comment about buying a beater Elite 1868 and swapping out the neck and bridge. I think he was joking, but some of you will recall I snagged a used 1868 for 200 bucks about four months ago. So tomorrow, I'm taking it to the mothership where the crew will spend the next 4-8 weeks retro-fitting what will become a custom mandocello. :D Here are a couple of the before pictures. Wish me luck.

That's a great idea. When you get tired of it let me know.

Well that sounds like a worthwhile project and I wish you well with it. And look forward to seeing the results.

Always exciting out on the frontier! :)

What's a mandocello? Sounds like an exotic Queensland fruit.

A mandocello is to a mandolin, what a cello is to a violin.

That is such a Great Idea... Wow. That will be so cool!

So you think that I could send-in one of my T's and have them do that? :p

Kim suggested a beater. Can I help it if I'm an overachiever? The thing looks almost new. :D
