I haven't seen any reference to US Applause serial numbers. Anyone have any info? I don't see any correlation to the CT ones whatsoever. I have an AA-14-1 (018640) and an Academy KA-14 (014508). I read somewhere the Academy was made in 1978 only, which may help date other Moosup guitars as either pre or post 78.... if that's true. I emailed Ovation a few months ago and they were very hazy recalling the Academy series and didn't have any info to offer.

If they were sequential that would be a good tool; I read Moosup made about 100,000 total and I think they started in either 1975 or 1976. I don't know specifically when they moved production to Korea; all I know is I tried one of the Korean ones in a music store in the fall of '84 so it must have been some time before that. It would be assuming too much to simply divide 100,000 by the years in Moosup; it's never that simple.

I also have a '79 1111 in nicotine jaundiced white. All three of them have their own personalities and I love all of them.

Anyone have any info to share?

Caribou, Maine, that's where Lou Cyr was from.
Applause started in 76 and ended in 82-83. Academy was probably a little later, like 79, and ran for a couple of years.
100,000 total from Moosup is about right.

Just add an Applause made in Moosup to my mini-collection and it's an amazing guitar ! I love it. The label is in place but serial lost.

A guy is parting out an Applause on ebay. He claims it to be a 1978 but the date stamp looks to me like 1979. When I had my AA14 apart I don't recall seeing any date stamps but I will pop the neck to see. Ditto for the KA-14. If the numbers were sequential, one can surmise that anything lower than 085976 predates Aug 1979.

Were the uralite/aluminum Applause necks adjustable? Is that a truss rod in the ebay photo or is that just the bolt that connects to the body?

I'll have to take your word for it, Beal. I just know it's US made

I did adjust the truss rod last night and it improved playability a bit. Poor old 80% platic guitar has been a bit neglected since the Pacemaker arrived but I've promised to play it in the pub next week
