Location: Ohio | Just saw the You Tube review on the Viper3. Nice guitar if you like the strat sound. I lean more toward the classic Les Paul sound. Which Ovation SOlid body come the closest without spending a fortune on a modeling amp and a bunch of effects? |

Also Don't rule out Early Breadwinner (Toriodal pickups) and Viper. The Viper and Viper3 are VERY flexible. Whatever review you saw, it sounded like a strat cause the person recording it wanted to. The Viper is my goto and was my main instrument for gigging and no one ever accused it of sounding like a strat.. although it is indeed not as meaty as humbuckers, but it's much more meaty than the average single coil driven guitar. |

That really just does it all and I'd rank it higher on the list than the UKII for a humbucker sound... as it has... humbuckers. |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | To answer the specific question of "Which Ovation Solid body come the closest without spending a fortune on a modeling amp and a bunch of effects? "
Then the best answers, in no particular order, just depending on taste... UKII, VXT, UltraGP, UltraGS-2
All of these have two humbuckers that provide the traditional "humbucking" sound.
After that... the floodgates of choice and opportunity are seemingly endless. |
