Location: Caribou, ME | Okay, so I scored a completely trashed 1111 and paid too much for it ($56). I suspect it's too far gone to rehab. And for me to say that, it must be bad. I basically bought it for the tuners and rosette. As to the husk... we'll see. It may be reborn in some form.
The tuners will go on a 1111-6 I'm fixing up. That and some wet sanding/buffing of the top should finish it.
The rosette is going on a 1132 matrix. The matrix's rosette had a big chunk missing. Last night I figured I had nothing to lose so I slipped the edge of a single edged razor under the edge of the rosette and slowly cracked it off the top without incident. The glue was brittle so it cracked and popped it's way loose. The only bad spot was where it had come loose at some point in the past and someone glued a small section down. It took a small sliver out of the top but will be reglued and the new (bigger) rosette will hide all.
So before I attempt removal of the 'good' rosette off the donor 1111, does anyone have any sage advice? Or is it just slow and careful with a high pucker factor?

Try laying a damp washcloth over the rosette and hitting it with a steam iron.
The dissimilar materials should separate more easily. |
