I was just in playing all my guitars, and realized they are all what I would consider excellent examples of their respective designs. Not trying to brag or be an AW, but just adding my impressions after what I would consider an extensive search for THE guitar.

Adamas 1681:
I don't know if this one is an exception, but it is absolutely the best sounding Adamas I have played. 14 fret, solid peghead, 1 11/16 nut. Balanced tone across the spectrum, and very easy to play. 1981 model, well seasoned and a fine example of what Ovation can build.

Folklore 1114:
Just got this one and it sounds as good as any wood top O I have owned. 12 frets, slot head, deep bowl, 1 7/8 nut,..what more could you ask for?

Takamine EF417S:
Beautiful to look at and hear. Very limited production (60 or so) Koa back and sides, bear claw spruce top, small body with big tone. Slot head, 14 fret, 1 11/16 nut. Only wish it had a wider neck.

Washburn 125th anniversary parlor:
Had one of these, sold it, missed it so much I went on an extensive search, found one and bought it. Another limited production (250) guitar with solid rosewood back and sides and spruce top. Slot head, 1 7/8 nut, VERY V neck, old school blues sound with 1800's look.

Martin CEO-5
Sorry, but the absolute best sounding acoustic I have ever owned (or played for that matter). Maybe this in another abnormality, but I'm glad I have it. Bear in mind, this is a subjective opinion, but I have owned and played a slew of different high end guitars, and I have yet to see another that would surpass this one. (I picked up a nice guitar at the Newport guitar fest, played it, and thought "this sounds almost as good as my Martin. I put it down when I saw it had a 35,000.00 price tag. Told Iffy not to let me pick up any more guitars until I looked at the tag). 1 3/4 nut, slot head, 12 fret, sapele back and sides with bear claw spruce top.

I have culled the acoustic end down to these, and as far as I'm concerned, all I need now is a good 12 string. Maybe another 1758 burst.... ;)

I guess it all depends on what and how you play. Congrats on finding your own "tight five".Those are good ones all around. Mine are totally different and that's the way it ought to be.

But I doubt I'm ever going to get even close to "almost there"...

Maybe I was a little premature on the "almost there" comment. I agree Bobbo, I don't think any of us will ever get "there". I'm just delighted with the ones I have now. I know there's more great ones out there, and I'll find them...eventually. Thanks for the reality check. ;)

The "almost" leaves the door open!

Seriously, I enjoy when Jim gets another git. Sure is nice to 'taste' the assorted flavors AND brands. Thanx TJ!

I believe I am "almost there".....my Borges is due to be delivered sometime next week.

I will then be done............

which means my tastes have finally reached my check book limit.

(and as a matter of fact I will be having a few "tasty treats" for sale in the near future.

dangerous thinking, next you'll realize that you were incorrect and just how far you are from where you thought you were, and then you'll start taking steps to correct it.
