How close is that forum scrutinized?

How many have been denied access to the other forums?

Are some still in limbo?

Saw many new folk there that have not shown up here.

"Among other things, the purpose of this Welcome Center is to help create a 'Frequently Asked First Questions' thread." How has this worked out?

Don't respond there due to the 'request'. Just wonderin'...

Well, it's kept GW Williams/Jordan Rivers/Heather42DD at the gate, so it can't be ALL bad...

Seems to me they've just gotta ask and they're in. So what's the point?

Some were given the keys without, apparently, even asking.

Luckily Mr GW didn't think to ask. But anyway, he's already 'in' under one of his/her (definitely 'his') multiple personalities.

Anyway, where's this much vaunted 'Frequently Asked First Questions' thread?

Not sure the point of this thread... What's the matter? The obvious 4 months without drama got you bored so you thought you would try to create some... :) <-note the smiley face.

There are 6 moderators that monitor it fairly closely. Due to current software limitations, I can't make it more automated or prevent the general membership from posting. Only a couple or three have been denied access, or rather just never granted access, with good reason. With all the eyes watching, we were able to be proactive.

The majority of people who come to the forums are not coming to join a forum, but rather just ask a question, get their answer and move on. It's actually always been that way.

About 70 new members sign up each month this time of year, a few actually ask a question, maybe a few more since the Welcome Center has made it more comfortable. A couple actually stick around.

What is hard to gauge, and I can only get from traffic, is all the members that religiously visit the site, but never post... ever. There are 1000's. They use the site daily or just read what new stuff is posted. They really are the "core" of the Ovation Fan Club. They visit, they tell others, they link to others, but still never post.

Something to think about... only 7,900-ish people have joined over the past 8 years. In the past 3 months, the site has been visited by 16,760 unique people with an average time per visit of nearly 10 minutes.

Probably more information than you wanted to know... but I got curious so I looked it up and thought I would share it.

Again, not really sure the point of this thread.

I will say one negative thing about the Welcome Center. Before it existed Alpep and I got to spend hours on the phone each week discussing how to deal with the latest issues. While the topic of conversation sucked, at least we talked. In the past few months, the only time we've talked is to check in with each other, catch up on things, I bought some gear, etc.. So now we need to make a point of calling or emailing more often.

Frankly since the Welcome Center, with the help of the Moderators that keep their eyes open, the Ovation FanClub has been pretty interesting reading again, pretty much back the way it was when we started. People come, ask questions, get answers, a few stick around to play.

The Welcome Center is starting to house the most common "first questions" people have. It will take a few years to grow, and new software will help when the time comes. The Social Network site has been steadily growing as well, with some improvements coming soon too.

Thanks for asking.

I thought we already had a rudimentary FAQ thingy somewhere?

Why now just tidy that up and make it a sticky on the ' Welome Center' (not fixed yet  ) front page?

The Welcome Center was created to get the forum back under control. As a bi-product, it is and will continue to be the source for the most likely "first questions" people ask. That may get rolled into the FAQ, or a knowledge base or something else. Ask again in a couple of years, and I'll let you know.

Now lets get back to talking guitars!!!!
