Just picked up a Recording King 000 12 fret slot head, and am really impressed with this off shore import. The fit and finish is really good and it sounds great, especially considering it's not that expensive. I promised a few members an in depth review which I will provide once I get to spend a little more time with it, but my first impression is very favorable. Here's a pic with a few other slots. (it's the one on the right between the Tak and the Martin in the first pic.)

I have culled the acoustic end down to these, and as far as I'm concerned, all I need now is a good 12 string. Maybe another 1758 burst....
Well, that didn't last long :D

Way back when, they were made for Montgomery Ward by American builders as a cheaper alternative to the established brand names, but the name got shuffled around to an enterprising off shore company. Still a nice sounding guitar.

Yeah, well...no fair, I had this one coming before I posted that. I'm waiting for Jack to finish fondling the Adamas, then I should be good for a few (minutes). ;)

It was never a Gibson-owned brand. Recording King was the House brand name for Montgomery Ward. Sears had Harmony & Danelectro make their guitars for them, Montgomery Ward used Gibson among others.

For some reason the UK distributor for RK refuses to import the 12-fret Martin 00 and 000 models. Every one I've seen has been stellar, especially the all-mahogany models. I have a couple of Recording King Gibson-style slope jumbos in my store and they're the finest sub-$1000 guitars I've played or heard, bar none. The Recording King Lap Steel is ridiculous value. I've been gigging with one this last few months. Under $200 and as good as anything else I own which cost way more.

Sold the first one to STK, was lucky enough to find another one. They only made 250 of them with solid woods and the 125th logo on the 12th fret. They do still make the same configuration, but the back and sides are laminated. Doesn't sound the same.
