There's a Glen Campbell Deluxe Balladeer on the 'bay. It's claimed to be mint, but there are things wrong with it. I've emailed the seller. It will be interesting to see what he says.......

If Moody posted a link, then we would know if he knows what he's talking about.

All three chords worth !!!

Guitar looks like it was towards the end of the run (has a model number on the label), earlier ones did not. Too bad the bridge was swapped.

Agreed, I love the older 5-point bridges.

Question Dave, Are the tuners also incorrect? I thought all the GC DB's had Grovers. Or were they changed at the end of the run.

Of course, being an A/E also makes me wonder. The seller stated, "As I am the second owner, I am not sure if it is a stock or aftermarket pickup. It is pretty simple, and pretty flush with the guitar, and it works."

I was hoping for a more accurate description but there you have it.

Still worth thinking about though...

Probably added the electronics when the bridge was changed I would think. Also probably cut the value of the guitar in half when the bridge was changed too.

I emailed the seller of this guitar and told him about what I saw that wasn't right about it (bridge, wood on the face of the headstock, possibly the rosette).

Never heard back from him.....

Fletcher;

The Ovation stamped Schallers are correct for these guitars, the Grovers came later. Mine has the same tuners as this one.

Paul;

What's wrong with the headstock? Too light in colour? That could mean it has been re-necked at one time. I am curious about the TRC which doesn't look as wide as it should be...it looks more like the second, smaller version.

And the case is obviously ot original.

Uh, did they even have these kind of TRC's back in 68?

Wayne, there's so much wrong with this guitar, I don't know where to begin.

Pretty certain it's been re-necked. Per the label and number, it was built between November 1968 and February 1969, within a month or two of when mine (not mine anymore as it's moved on) was built. The headstock is the wrong shape. The truss rod cover maybe too narrow at the base, but I'm not certain. The headstock has a walnut face on it, not rosewood. The tuners have the wrong mounting hole on them (they point to the side, not down straight). And it should say "Deluxe" on the face of the headstock.

The top has been resurfaced. It's got an overlaid rosette and the bridge is one that didn't come into use for another year and a half after that guitar was built, and it's the walnut rounded bridge, not the rosewood five point bridge.

It may be a nice guitar, but there's too much wrong with it to call it mint. Way too much....

Except for the label and the shiny bowl it looks like a mid to late '70's GC Artist....My '78 1627 has the same type tuners (screws point to the side)

This guitar could have been built in the 69-70 mutt phase. It's a stock 1117 (pre-legend, walnut HS facing, stick on rosette) with a shiny bowl and GC TRC. A year later they changed the name to Legend.

It'll probably fetch Legend money, not GC Deluxe Balladeer money.

Moody, I just got more info on the on-board electrics (it comes with its own 1/8th inch to 1/4th inch cord).
Did your questions also get answered?

Just got an email this morning. The seller sounds like a good guy and is going to relist it reflecting the true status.

Toby, I don't think the guitar was built in the "transition" era. The serial number indicates Dec 68 to February 69. There's just been a lot of rework done.
