Wow! Bryan, if it went for that in THIS market, I say if you can, hold on to yours ... it's just going to become more valuable.

The other day I called a music store about some Ovation guitars the owner claimed to be selling. I asked him, "Do you have any U.S.A. made Ovations?" His response was: "Nah, all the American-made Ovations are gone."

!!!! Keep yours!

;)

Well I'd sure like to, but I have a standing agreement with the wife on the one-in one-out rule and something has to go ... So it's either the 1619 CL or the 6773LX Country Artist.

That seems like the higher end of 'believable' (1500 USD). There have been several regular Legends go for between 1000-1200 USD in recent months, so a really nice example in that colour should fetch a good buck. Makes me glad to see 'O's' are holding their value so well in this market.

Had a friend over the other day to try out a few guitars. Said his wife was looking for a six string acoustic and was planning on buying a Taylor (what else...). By the time he left, the 'plan' had changed and he was going to look seriously at either an Ovation or an Adamas II (if for no other reason than the second he steps out the door of the music shop, the Taylor will be worth half of what he paid for it...).

This is good example of what I have been saying all along... If given a chance to play nice O's... people will buy them!!

I've been giving a lot of thought about what will end up having to go, and the decision is beginning to lean more toward the Country Artist. They are still building that model, so getting my hands on one later would probably be easier. The 1616 I have has the Op Pro electronics, and with all the(factory)work I have invested in it, it would be harder to part with.

That was a great price for the CL. But about 6 weeks ago, one that was beautiful and being sold by a quiet member on this board, barely went over $500. Sometimes it's just the right time and sometimes it's not.....

Paul,

You're so right. It's tough to see some of our members selling great 'O's and then having to go elsewhere to move 'em.

I'm sure that I won't see the day that the US 'O's will reach the price level$ of the true vintage gits of today (Gibbies, even Kays, etc.). But, those days are on down da road. That's one reason I'm reluctant to sell any of mine. I just hope that my progeny will listen to da ol' man! If not, then someone's gonna get some fine gits cheap...

Canterbury Strings is making a good business out of that philosophy. The Black Hills is (are?) full of Ovations because she has them hanging on the wall in her shop.

I have a local small guitar shop owner who carries a selection of the foreign models. He told me that he would like to have more (USA) models there, but for some reason I can't recall, he said they wouldn't send any others to him (perhaps the size of his shop). I actually thought about letting him hang several of mine in his incased section, to allow more people to see and play some of the nicer ones.

It's driven me nuts for years. Ovation makes a great USA guitar (higher end) that doesn't cost a fortune, beats the snot out of everything else in it's price range and still can't get into stores.

Don't let it get to you Paul.....
It's just an excellent example of how good they are at marketing.
