Joined: July 2010 Posts: 83 Location: Urbana, IL | I received my Adamas W598 on Friday so I'm a new comer to the 12 string world. It came from the factory with the standard Adamas 1611 (10-47) which I have since replaced with some D'addario EJ41s (9-45). I know it's impossible to get the tension, overall and by string pairs, down to that of a 6 string (especially one with 10-47 on it) but I've been working out some numbers on getting it really low. The 1616 strings that come stock have an overall tension of 266 lbs and with the custom set I'm looking at, I'll be getting the total tension down to around 185 lbs. I've found that the Adamas top is so sensitive, the lighter strings still produce good volume and tone so I'm not worried about going with a 9-42 set. Who else uses extra light strings on their 12 string and what has been your experience with them?

If you don't have the CD I am sure it will eventually turn up on BrotherBobbo's SOTD thread. Haven't released anything that I can think of with the 12 string longneck. Several got to play it at the Racoonfest and I think most of them liked what they heard!

Really rumbles and makes some tunes easier to sing. 10's on my Adamas 1688 and tuned to concert pitch. Don't worry with an Adamas guitar. The carbon top won't deform over time. I've never heard of an Adamas guitar (including 12-strings) in need of a neck-reset. And in the meantime there are specimen in the thirties out there. Karl

That thought never even crossed my mind. ;) That's part of the reason I bought an Adamas. I just want to keep the tension on the lighter sides. I don't expect a 12 string to play just like a 6 string so I'm just trying to get them as close as possible, within reason.
