Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | This may sound strange, but has anyone ever bought a used guitar that seemed to have the previous owner's music still in it? I once bought a used Guild from Dave O. that he had found at a flea market in pieces. He put it back together (and did a great job!) and after doing our traditional haggling, I finally bought the thing. When I got it home that night, we had company over, and when I took out my new treasure to show it off, I started playing some DYNOMITE blues leads. Thing is, I am not a blues guitarist, never played lead guitar in my life, and it sounded so good! My guests were amazed, and said "AL! I didn't know you could play like that!" All I could say in response was "I can't". This lasted a few days, and eventually it was gone. Now I'm back to fingerpicking chords, but the only explanation I could come up with was that whoever had owned this guitar before me was a blues player, and had left a little of himself in the guitar. Has anybody ever experienced anything similar? |

The cashews came from New Jersey.
Allison, I think you were at the right place at the right time for that to happen. I have an old National Duolian that was originally owned by a black coal miner from West Virginia. When I got it from Debanjo it was a wreck. After a major rebuild I got it playable again and strung it up. BUT before I tuned it I poured two shots af really good shine inside it to wake the soul back up first, then wake up the strings. The guitar is great.
Cliff, aren't you glad it was only 1 cashew that went into yours? |
