Just in case anyone is interested.

Gerry Rafferty\'s Adamas from Baker Street

Looks to be a real nice one. With provenance. Good for somebody.

One of my all-time favorite songs. And he used an Adamas!

Funny, kind of hard to prove that when here's the official video
Not that that means anything.

Still.....prove it! I'd want more than someone telling me that. Regardless, it's probably a fantastic git, but to pay a premium for it I would want some sort of irrefutable proof that it is what's heard on that album.

What premium? I paid an average of the two prices for #119 w/o artist lineage...I consider it money well spent! His is stereo; mine is mono...both have naked fingerboards...very nice guitar: the artist link is just icing!

Darkbar, why are you such a dick? You KNOW Mike has pictures, dozens of them, you have SEEN them, you have COMMENTED on his threads. Do I have to post the links? The poor guy is just out of surgery AGAIN and you just want to pile on, stir the shit and play all innocent and NICE in your silk shirts. Sorry to get personal, but your contributions are really wearing thin. If this was my forum I'd give you your own private category where you could post all the USUAL negative crap and nobody would even have to see it. Sorry everyone else has to read this (YEAH I know, take it off line) but I'm feeling really bad for Mike after all he has been through that he has to deal with posts like yours. ADIDAS and CLICK.

dark bar, I was going to say to just ignore Gallerinski, that he's just on the rag, but when I thought about it, I agree with him.....

WoW Dave. Feeling a bit jet-lagged? Or jealous that someone's posts are more acerbic than your tacky usual?

With the right provenance, that's easily worth the top asking price. Hell, the opening bid is what any of these early Adamas I's should go for at a minimum.

I was going to wholeheartedly agree with DarkBar on the provenance thing I mean, really, can ANYone prove ANYthing here? And, even if they can, does it really make that guitar THAT much more valuable? C'mon - it's Gerry Rafferty for Christs' sake) but then I thought of dB's shirts and, well, I just can't do it.

That is a nice guitar! By any chance, does anyone has a cover soft case/bag like the one used on the picture to cover the hardshell case? Please send me a PM.. thanks

Absolutely stunning guitar. Would anyone sell one of these for less than the opening bid? I wouldn't...

A slightly OT question for our learned Adamas scholars here...

What specifically was different in how these necks were finished (on guitars of this vintage...) as compared to the later re-issues? There doesn't seem to be any type of overspray used, but the old ones have such a nice, almost glossy... but not quite, finish on them? Was it just a difference in the quality of walnut used on the earlier ones?

Could a 90's re-issue be given the same treatment? On the early ones the necks always seem to be so much darker as well?

I agree with Mike. I think the price is fair given the early serial number, condition, vinyl case and documentation.

Anyone know when (serial number) they started adding fretmarkers?

Nick

Nick, I owned #189 and it had the markers...Jerome owns #125 and it does not...This is #155 and it does not so somewhere after 155 and before 189...119 is Jan. 1978 and 189 is May '78...so it's a guess but perhaps April '78?

John, I think it's an aging thing. Just get a new one and wait 20 years.

Nice guitar. My parents had the album, but I think the album title was "City to City".

I emailed the seller asking if there was any evidence that this guitar belonged to Gerry or was used on the Baker Street Album. He replied that he had no hard evidence and that he is listing the instrument on someone else's behalf. He also said he had no reason to doubt the seller and did offer to provide the email address of the owner. As it stands there doesn't appear to be any provenance, so you would be bidding on what is tangible; an early 1687 in very nice condition with both the case and slip cover. ;)
