Is anyone familiar with Hagstrom guitars and if one is worth owning? There's a 60's vintage one for sale locally. Thanks!

Looks like an early Hagstrom Viking. The Viking models went through a ton of changes, but that looks to be from 65/67-ish. They were a quality guitar, but not especially sought-after so they don't fetch big money. Elvis played a red Viking at some point, I seem to remember

Thanks, Paul. Would $200-300 be a reasonable price if it's in decent condition?

Thanks, Paul. Here's Elvis playing a '68 Hagstrom Viking II.

My first decent electric was a Hagstrom III. I sold or traded it at some point and always regretted having done so. I recently came across one at a yard sale and was going to buy it - until I examined it with the eye I have developed forty years after the fact. What a piece of junk. I passed.

the owner bought it over 35 years ago, and it's been in it's case for the last 20 years. he said he never had any repairs done and he wasn't aware of any before he purchased it. he'll sell it with case for $250. I figure it's worth a look at that price.

FYI, he also has a 77 or 78 Strat and Fender Super Reverb amp for sale. he's the original owner. they've been in storage for 15 years. he asking $2500 for both.

I would say :

That is an Original Hagstrom ( made in Sweden ) Good Stuff !..

If that strat is in excellent condition ,well,..but the Old Amp.is exactly that, an Old amp.,..will probably need new valves ,adjusting bias etc .( costly ) and maybe some more work ( changing potentiometers comes to mind ), offer him 1500 Usd for it all..

But that Hagstrom sounds like a good deal..offer him 200 for it, or for Strat/Amp./Hag...1500 dollars

Thanks, Vic. I'm not really interested in the Strat or amp, unless they are severely undervalued. I just posted those in case someone else was looking. I will pursue the Hagstrom though.

$200 for a vintage mid-60's archtop in decent condition with some interesting model history to boot? Most certainly worth a look.

Thanks, Professor. Any chance you could scan some and post or email them?

Just checked my resources. Nothing from Hagstrom appeared until 1965-66, and then they began running full page adds with a funky looking solid bodied electric. I scanned it as a pdf and can e-mail it to you if you want.

I'd been looking at the Hagstrom Viking Deluxe, the new models. Haven't found one to play yet.

A local store DID have a new Viking II which looks very similar to this one. I played it, and I have to say the neck is SUPER DOOPER thin. I mean REALLY FREEKIN' thin. I like thin necks, but this one was just too thin.

Regardless, I'd jump all over this bad boy!

No. The one appearing in these adds is a different shape, one that is not particularly attractive to me. The ads I have show a triple pickup model with a series of eight controls mounted on a piece of chrome that ran slightly diagonal to the lower right of the vibrato tailpiece (which is similar to the one appearing on the model above). IMHO, these controls were poorly integrated into the design of the guitar, room for which was made possible by enlarging the lower rear contour of the body such that the guitar looks like it has a bit of a beer gut.

Thanks, professor. That's either a Condor or Corvette. The the two are the exact same model but Hagstrom had to drop Corvette because someone else had already registered it. And it wasn't Chevrolet.
