Location: Caribou, ME | Has anyone found an aftermarket replacement for the stack knobs (vol/tone)? I have a couple sets that are cracked and super glue does NOT work. I'm tempted to just super glue them right onto the shafts.
Any ideas for replacements? |

| Mother still has plenty, AFAIK. At least they did a couple of years ago when I got several sets from JB. |

There are several hundred concentric knob sets on ebay, Tele style sort of, but they all seem to be 6mm and 8mm. The Ovation preamp appears to take something closer to 5 and 7.
I'll email John and ask nicely. |

Location: Indiana | Ever try any resin casting Scott? Lots of use in fine scale modeling recreating out-of-production kit parts. If these stacks are becoming that rare, might be a good option. |

Location: Caribou, ME | I super glued a thin (volume pot style) washer onto the under side of the tone knob and even though it's cracked, it tightened up okay and appears to be holding. The volume knob is hanging on okay. I'll email JB and ask him about a replacement set.
These are for the '83 Collector's prototype, which is close to being 'done'. I repaired the massive top crack, made a new bone nut for it, fixed various and sundry other maladies too. I bought another basket case 1983-B in hopes of salvaging the original rosette, plus it has the original HSC. The bowl is trash but I may put the neck and electronics up for grabs. I won't know for sure until it gets here. The prototype is playable right now but I need to do the final nut shaping and taking the slots down another few thousandths, plus I will need to add a shim under the treble side of the dovetail for better neck alignment. So far it's nice. It sounds much bigger than it looks. |
