A few years back, Mr. Ovation and I met for the first time at a local Vintage Guitar Show. that day we were sittin' there shootin' the crap and all of a sudden we heard this great sounding amp being used to test out a guitar. It was a Carvin Nomad 50w 1x12 combo amp in a vintage tweed looking cabinet.

Mr O and I both agreed it was a marvelous sounding little tube amp. I've been lusting for one ever since, and actually decided I like the idea of the twin 12 model, the Belair (I saw Joe Walsh using one). I finally found a nicely priced one on craigslist here. With the price about $100 less than usually listed, I expected a beatup dirty lil amp that was going to need TLC to get back to good working order...

Boy was I plesantly surprised! The amp is only about a year old and not only is it in good working order, but it's in "like new" condition. and I mean like new too! There's no trace of dirt, dust, grime or anything... inside and out! Usually you find dust and junk inside the back cab area, but no... just like I pulled it right out of the box!

I haven't taken pics yet, but here's one stolen off the web...

That's a lot of amp for the going prices. It has something like, what, nine tubes? Sounds like you found a good deal. The trick to getting the very best sound out of any amp...stick a really good player at the beginning of the signal chain.

I had hoped some of that "good player" stuff had hitched a ride on your (now my) 1619 but there's little evidence of that so far.

Yeah, I hate it when that part is lost in shipping.

Damon, I'm curious what you think of this amp after a few gigs. The more I research this unit, the more I come to the conclusion that it might be one of the more cost-effective deals on a full featured, all-tube, twin speaker combo amp on the market, new or used.

Will do Prof...

I still will be giggin' for the most part with the Vox AD60VTX or 120VTX, but I will take this baby out as soon as I redo my pedalboard.

Those Vox amps have been a wonderful crutch with the models and effects built in coupled with the long board.

First impressions though, as usual, Carvin has an unbelievable clean channel. THere's been talk about the "Soak" channel being weak, but honestly, it's better than the Fender equivs. Add a pedal and you're good to go. If I'm using the UKII, no extra is needed.

After a couple gigs I'll post a review. I haven't even had it cranked yet.
