Twice in the last week I have played 2 Applause guitars by Ovation. Both brand new,2 separate stores.179 bucks.Better than a Celeb, and if you handed it to me blindfolded,I would swear it was a early Balladeer. It is that good.Is this Ovation's little joke?

I think early Balladeers are better than you give them credit for. ;)

Do an actual side by side, blindfolded or not, I don't think they are close. Old Balladeers sounded and played better back then, and they still do today.

I'm an Applause fan. I own two of the early Moosup ones and they sound terrific, way better then any Celeb or Ultra.
Different from my Custom Balladeer.
Rigger173, I have no doubt that you have found the Applause with a nice deep sound that hit you :)

Several A's in my house. O's too.

Apples and Oranges (how convenient!)

They're different. Sometimes I prefer the sound of a (Moosup) Applause. They seem to have a deeper boom to them. Maybe the notes aren't as crystal clear as a Balladeer but they have their own voice and sometimes that hits the spot better than a regular Ovation. Sometimes we feel like pizza, sometimes pork chops. It's all good.

Can't say I've played any imported bowls that set me on fire. Not saying they don't exist.

The point I was making was that Ovation is producing a 170 dollar guitar that sounds, plays, and feels like a much more expensive guitar. It reinforces my thought that it is the design, the neck shape, the bowl shape and over all feel of the guitars is what makes them my choice.
Some guitar company,I think Taylor, made a guitar a while ago out of a few random wooden pallats from their loading dock. The point they were making was construction is much more important than materials.

Riccardo, EVERYTHING is different from that guitar (that I still kick myself for selling).

That one has a very odd VT style of bracing, not to mention it's a pre-Legend Legend

You just said his mother "smells like a stale, red-wine-soaked proscuitto that has been left in the trunk of a car for a week."

@Rooster ; Well, you've been to San Gimignano and eat a good sandwich with wine, I hope you have a good memories of your visit .... San Gimignano is two hour drive from where I live. BTW - good Italian, bravo !

@Damon ; in my post I was referring to the custom balladeer (X braced) and not to the 1117 VT Legend I've taken from you, that sounds really good, anyway

I will up load later today some mp3 files (recorded with a call center mic I use for Skype .... sorry) on my ning page of the 1117 and the Applause AA14 for a short comparison ;)

Ok, just click on the link below to check out some mp3 files I just uploaded on ning.
Nothing serious; a quick comparison between 1117 VT braced and Applause AA14 K5 (I guess) braced (similar to the A bracing) :)

I bought deep no cut Applause a year ago for my brothers office.

It sounds turned out to be impressive
