I am thinking that I would some day like to aquire a '79 Collector's (When the fund is back up to speed:). I have only played one parlor guitar, and that was the recent Takamine New Yorker(I believe that was what it was called) How is the tone and volume with that shallower bowl? I am guessing that with the slothead and being a 12-fretter, that it would put out sound pretty nicely.?? Your thoughts and comments would be appreciated.

The parlor is a fun little ovation and I have owned 3 of them....sold them all eventually.

The one to get is the wide neck version.

They are different from their larger sisters--the sound is very clear, very sweet; it's suprising how much volume it puts out. It's not boomy, but mine has an ethereal quality to the sound that makes it stand out.
I know this isn't possible, but I'd love to have an Adamas with this body, because the strings on mine sound very, very balanced to begin with. A handlaid bowl and textured top would make for one amazing, killer little guitar. (Come on, "Mom," can't I have just one?? ;) )
As you can guess, I love mine; Joisey Goil #2 got one, too, because she liked mine so much.

Tough question ...

In the land of small (parlor) sized guitars there are definitely better ones than the Ovation. But if you want a '97 for loyalty reasons they are a pretty nice addition to he heard.

Hi Vince. I don't know if this will help or not, but I did some recording on a 97C when I owned one. They are great little guitars.

Anyway, the recordings were pretty primitive: Basically I set my H4 Zoom recorder on the desk in front of me and played the songs. I haven't modified the recordings in any way other than bumping the volume a little. (You may still have to turn your speakers up a tad. This was one of my first attempts at recording, and the levels were set way too low.) But hopefully it will give some idea of the sound it can make. It was strung with silk-n-steel strings, and tuned to open-D. I am finger-picking and plucking with the fleshy edge of my fingers, but even so you can hear exactly what Karen mentions; it's very clear and sweet sounding acoustically. And much like Karen, I hope to have a custom one built some day. (Of course, I need to buy a winning lottery ticket first.)

Also, a guy has been advertising one on the NYC Craig's List for over a year. He wants about $800 if I remember right, and it's worth every penny if it's in good shape. With patience and a little luck, you may even find one for less.

Good luck! :)

Ditto on that. I've had three and sold them all too. One of the best of the Ovation line IMHO. Wish I would have kept one of them. I agree, if you can find a wide neck, that's the one to own.

Bryan,

If you've done a search here, then you should know that it's an exceptional lil' Ovation. If you have a chance to net one, go fer it!

Mine is here to stay!

I played Iffy's last summer and wanted to buy it. It sounds a lot better than it's small size would suggest. It is pretty high on the lust list.

I had one and sold it to Joisey Goil #2.

A nice guitar but I found the parlor size a little small for me.
