I got out my most prized possession, my Dad's 68 Deluxe Balladeer, to play a while and sure enough a finish crack has appeared.
It is very thin, not through the wood, and about 4 inches long.
Up till now the top was crack fre except for a small about 1 inch semicircular crack in the finish up above the sound hole and again not through the wood.
Damn, 42 years and it finaly happens.
Of course it could be worse and I should count my blessings it's not worse.
I think this years weather is to blame.
REALLY FREAKIN COLD, and we've been running the heat more than normal.
I'm almost ready to start crying.
I quickly went through the rest of the guitars and they are fine.
Again, it could be worse but I'm hurting over this.

What a damn shame. Just remember, THE most important thing about that guitar remains unchanged...it belonged to your Dad. Sorry dude.

Mike,

Sorry to hear that. It has been cold around here this winter. I've been running my humidifier,(purchased at Lowe's), a lot this winter.

Been a lot of finish cracks reported lately. My 1756 (Legend 12 String) went this week (sob...).

Ordered a humidifier today, will be here on Friday. Then I can rest easy again. Bloody insane weather.

Yeah climate change is a myth... MY ASS!!

The in-case humidifiers were on their way too.
It is going to the MS soon for a going over anyway, I hope they can touch up both cracks and arrest this second one, the old semi cirgular crack isn't going anywhere.

Couple months ago I moved the few I have from stand to case with humi source inside. Can't wait for this crap to end(and I love winter). The studio looks much better with the gals out on display. Emma, Nikki, Candi and Spud.

I feel your pain. Kind of! Your 1968 is much more special in all regards. My 1866 developed a crack through the wood in a humidity controlled room over night.

Never even had a smug on the finish before that. I'm not sure what happened. I'm still trying to decide if I should send it in or not...

Good luck with your's.
