Anyone know anything about the new wood topped Adamas guitar that is currently being promoted on the Ovation website? I've come to realize that I prefer the Adamas tone to their wooden Ovation brothers. Yet, I was certainly intrigued by the thought of a wooden topped Adamas guitar with the suspended ring sound board. Seems like it should be a fantastic guitar.

The one I played at the roadshow was absolutely stunning... I can only imagine what they will sound like in 15 years when that top really starts to open up!

I've played both six and twelve string versions. Not exactly Adamas style tone, but they are really, really nice. Very rich sound. Craftsmanship is stellar.

Al's got an inside line on these. Check with him for details.

I played the samples they had with the Roadshow and NAMM. Very nice, bigger sound than a 1537, probably because of the extra depth and top vibration due to the suspension ring. Yet distinctly different tone than a traditional CF textured Adamas. They sounded a bit tight, but that would certainly open up with playing (or ToneRite application).

I have a CL with a cracked top I was going to have the mothership replace with a sinker redwood top I found. Would it make sense to have it done with the suspended ring rather than the more traditional attachment method?

Don't know that you can replace the abalone around the top if you go with the suspended ring......

On Rick Hall's review(Ovation Program Manager), he says the binding ring of the new WT Adamas on the outside is hand made in a combination of epoxy and a fiberglass rope. This is placed into a mold, laid all out and trimmed that ends up in a very thin membrane that the top sits on.
It will be like the outside of a speaker that it is the edge that allows the whole center to vibrate and simultaneously transfers the energy down into the body. So, the sound of your CL :) with the suspendend ring should be really good, I have not seen one with this binding feature. That will be a unique CL with a suspended ring, hope the new attachment method can be done with that type of bowl; otherwise a new bowl?

Yeah, I know I would likely have to trade the abalone trim for the suspended ring, but that would be ok if the sound will be that much better. Unique is good...

I think the sound would be excellent. Let us know how it turns out.

Actually, I just posted a thread regarding the rebuilding of a Legend on the 'bay. Maybe I should add to my suggestions that the suspension ring be used. That guitar would be one killer mother......

ooohhh...seeing that info definitely makes me want to take that route. Looks like I'll have to get a price and do a little more saving up.
