Wall hanger question...

When hanging from the wall, the acoustic guitars seem to sit at a noticeable angle protruding out more from the wall the further down the guitar you go. With the electrics, they hang straight down with no angle whatsoever. My question is, will this damage the acoustic neck over time from hanging at an angle? Or is there a better mount to use for acoustics? I am currently using these Hercules wall mounts to hang the guitars. Hercules hangers I\'m currently using. Picture of what's going on, very noticeable angle here... should I be concerned? ![]()

I can see from the pics that the Hercules hangers angle up a bit. Since the acoustics are a lot lighter, perhaps the Hercules securing tabs are pulling back on the guitar's neck as it rests in the cradle. If you notice the acoustic not being able to rock a little in the hanger, that could indicate that pressure is on the neck. I don't know if that would cause any problem with the neck or not in the long run, but it would concern me a bit. Of course it could be the center-of-gravity thing also, but like I said ... it isn't happening with my hangers.

I have some experience modifying factory wall hangers to fit my unique applications, although I don't recall messing with any Hercules brand hangers.

If you modified the hanger so the headstock was clamped in postition to keep the neck vertical, THEN you'd be introducing unnatural stresses on the neck. It hangs where it hangs. It's physics. It's all good.

It still makes me a bit nervous but I suppose I will just keep a close eye on the action to make sure nothing is changing!
