Location: south east Michigan | YouTube is the best friend a guitarist can have. Most every song has some guy with a guitar and a video camera. Even if the guy is a hack you can sometimes learn enough to get started.
I just want to recognize one of the good ones. Our own Dark Bar has put a lot of effort into posting up helpful and concise guitar lessons. HERE |

Location: Flahdaw | Well, thanks Brad, but these are just easy songs. No good player is gonna learn anything from me, but in some cases I may remind someone of a song they forgot about. I had thoughts of posting some old jazz tunes, but they are so complicated and involved, I just didn't want to take the time. Maybe someday.
It actually started from me watching Fretkillr videos on youtube, and trying to figure out what he was doing. I too learn a ton from youtube, but some are easier to learn from than others. So I do MY channel the way I would want someone to teach a song I want to learn. Flash the damn fingerings on the screen, do it kinda slow, and give me just enough tips to take it from there.
I still get complaints that I'm not giving picking patterns, but as a fingerpicker myself, I don't need THAT much detail. |

You make your "A" chords weird.

I usually explain that I have fat fingertips, and only need 2 fingers to do an A chord, or 1 finger for an Em....even with my wider nutted guitars. I actually like freeing up a finger, 'cos I can use it to sweeten chords by hammering on different strings. Also, using less fingers makes quick switching of chords easier. People should try it, especially with those 1 11/16" necks.
Incidentally, regarding the channel. My most popular lesson is Eagles-"Love Will Keep Us Alive"...surely one of the easiest songs in the world. Don't know what that says........ |

During a lesson session a while back a helpful, sometimes southern gentleman suggested that I just wrap my thumb up & around and work the E & A strings. Using his Hulk Hands he demonstrated the form, I then attempted the form, and the guy says, "Well... never mind that." |

Location: Newington, CT | I've got the hulk hands. I'll use one finger for A, or three with a configuration similar to that of D, but all in one fret. Barring it is the easiest. But with the three fingers, you can make a tasty A7 using the D on the high E. |

| OK, I have big hands and can stretch from the 1st to 6th frets when I have to, but are you sure you mean D on high E string? That would take an absolute freak of nature to stretch all the way to the 10th fret, assuming you're talking about A7 in the first position... |

Location: Newington, CT | Yep. That also lets me slide nicely OUT of the A7 by stretching up with the pinkie to the A on the High E. Just worked best for me that way. |
