Wow Jim, another beautiful guitar. How different does the mahogany sound?

I've looked at an all-mahogany Martin for a while. Just never pulled the trigger before.

That one is very nice!

I just saw one of these on our local Craigslist last night. $1200

Dunno if that's a good or bad price, but if anyone wants it I'll play go between if I get a chance to play it for a night before shipping :D

Steve, it sounds amazingly as good, to me, as my CEO,(which I never thought I'd say about another guitar) a little mellower with tons of sustain and depth for such a diminutive body.
I was fully intending on buying the Collings, and took my CEO along to do an A/B so I knew where it stood. If I would have just gone there and played the Collings, I would have bought it. But after the comparo, I decided it wasn't any better at all, much less to spend 3k. This brings up an interesting point: Do you all think I am just "attuned" to the Martin sound so much that I think the Collings was inferior? (may be a bad choice of words) Actually, I think the Collings sounded remarkably like the CA GX. More midrange than the Martin.
On a side note, the gentleman who is selling these had been to Newport and ordered two VERY expensive units, hence the sell off of these. But, he was keeping one guitar of the 5 in the room,.. a Martin OM. I felt the Bourgeois OM (Adirondack top) was the best sound of the other three, with the Collings OM (also an Ad top) coming in close 2nd and the Weber Roundbody (Coco bolo body with Engleman top) a distant 3rd.

Damon, I think that 1300 would be a great price, depending on shape. The one I bought was a little more than that, but it's in almost un- played condition. From what I understand, there aren't many of these around (S 17) and the Mahog is getting more scarce.

I think it looks sweet. I'd love to play one Jim. If you need pics taken, send it along. I should be able to get it back to you in say... 3 weeks? ;)

Maybe I'll pretend that I have some money and call this guy up and go play his. :D

TJ, you might just prefer the "Martin" sound over the Collings. Nothing wrong with that.

For me, the Collings are a tad more "crisp" than the Martins that I have owned and I prefer the Collings sound.

Course, were just pickin at the fleas cause without a side by side comparison, most of us would be more than happy with either.
